SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ EGG HUNT

Image
The Golden Egg Easter afternoon at my Aunt Nevada's was the best egg hunt ever.  Each year after the Easter Church Service, we would hurry to get out of our fancy clothes and shoes and put on our scrubbiest clothes for the "Egg Hunt". It was held in the orchard next to my aunt's home.  Lots of tall grass, trees and shrubs ~~ The perfect place to hide a "ca-jillion" Easter eggs.  There were hard boiled and fancy colored, there were plastic eggs with little surprises inside.  Maybe candy, maybe a nickle or dime.  But what we all wanted to find was the GOLDEN EGG It was always the hardest to find, but what a rew ard waited inside it's shinny gold shell.   $5.00 !!  In the late 1940's when I was looking for that egg ~ $5.00 might as well been a million! I don't ever remember finding it.  But the hunt was worth it.  I remember the look on my cousins face when he found it!  Pure JOY! Do you have an Easter story from your...

FOOD FOR THE SOUL AND BODY

Image
We need food for our body and soul.  Sometimes I spend more time on the body than the soul.  I love my kitchen and I love fixing appealing and tasty meals for my dearest.  This is his lunch and I like how it looks on the new yellow plates.   Tuna Salad on pumpernickel bread was my lunch   Now concerning my soul, I have made a couple new adjustment.  I'm involved in my Tuesday morning Women's Bible Study and it's pretty intense, so I spend many hours each week searching out the scriptures and answering the questions for discussion.  I love doing this, but it takes time. Broccoli baked potato with cheese and bacon   Beginning this year I am also serving in our church on Wednesday nights with "Kids Time".  I teach two sessions.  with 4 and 5 year old, and 1st and 2nd graders.  So fun.  They keep me young at heart, since all our grandchildren are older.  So important that these little ones learn early on...

PALM SUNDAY

Image
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest!" O God, whose dearly beloved Son was greeted by the crowd on Olivet with hallelujahs, but who in that same week was mocked as he went lonely to the Cross, forbid that our welcome to him should be words alone.  Help us, we beg you, to keep the road open for him into our hearts; and let him find there not another crucifixion, but love and loyalty in which his kingdom may be established evermore.  Amen.    ~ Walter Russell Bowie (1882-1969)

THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY~ EVERLASTING LOVE

Image
Jeremiah 31:3  "The Lord has appeared to us in the past, saying "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness." "If He could grow weary of me, He would have been tired of me long before now.  If He had not loved me with a love as deep as hell, and as strong as death, He would have turned from me long ago.  Oh joy above all joys, to know that I am His everlasting inheritance, given to Him by His Father e'er the earth was!  Everlasting love shall be the pillow for my head this night.                                         ~~Charles Hadden Spurgeon (1834-1892)  Dear Lord, as I read and ponder the words of Charles Spurgeon, my mind cannot truly wrap around the everlasting love you have for me.  Truly this i...

SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

Image
YIKES ~ it's Wednesday and I just remembered it was Scribble Picnic Day!  The theme was "Across the Universe".   I thought for a moment and two pictures came to mind.  A space shuttle zooming across the universe, and ET a little slower in the basket on a bike.  I chose the latter.   Who didn't love ET? Since I was under the gun, so to speak, I made the moon with a salad plate (haha) and then splashed on some dark blue and added some sea salt, unfortunately my camera didn't pick up the stars it created.  ET and his driver was done with a sharpie, and dabbed the moon with a sponge and a little paint. Sorry I couldn't take more time for this theme, but life got in the way.  I really hate to not participate, so this will have to do for this time. So zip across the universe by clicking on the Scribble Picnic Badge on my sidebar.

ODDS AND ENDS AND PULLED PORK FOR TWO

Image
I found my Easter Bunny Welcome sign so it's now enjoying the balcony.  Can't hang things on our front door, so it's welcoming me and my dearest!  HaHa   Made an apple crisp in my new blue square casserole.   It's pretty sad when your dog's wardrobe is bigger than yours.  Just kidding Molly!   "Pulled Pork" for Two!  I get a small pork roast at Trader Joe's.   Approximately 8" long.  Cut into smaller pieces, season and brown in olive oil.   I know a lot of recipes put the raw meat directly into the crock pot.  But I find that the searing seals in the juices and the meat is so tender and juicy.  (I don't mind the extra step)   This is my favorite BBQ sauce for pulled pork.  I think I could just drink it!!!   I bought this small crock pot which is perfect when cooking for two.  I put BBQ sauce in the bottom and more on the top of the meat and let it cook for several hou...

THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY

Image
With Good Friday and Easter coming, I wanted to share three words spoken by our Lord from the cross. FORGIVENESS ~ "But Jesus was saying, 'Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing'".  Luke 23:34 REDEMPTION ~ "And He said to him, 'Truly, I say unto you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise'".  Luke 23:43 COMPASSION ~ "When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, 'Woman, behold your son!' Then he said to the disciple, 'Behold your mother!' From that hour the disciple took her into his own household."  John 19:26-27 Dear Lord Jesus, in Your darkest hour, in You deepest pain and rejection, You gave out forgiveness, redemption and compassion.  I know you do that the same today and always because I have experienced your forgiveness, your redemption, and your compassion.   May my heart be filled so that I to can share those with...

HOME GOODS and REAL POTTERY

Image
I love pottery dishes, but I am loving my new selection of dishes from Home Goods that are heavy plastic, but look like pottery.  Tonight I served my dearest salmon, sweet potato and skillet browned brussel sprouts on the perfect sized square plates.   For Spring I am using yellows and blues and these plastic dishes are so perfect.  Heavy duty and look more like pottery.  Dishwasher safe too.  Do you have a Home Goods near you? And this is "REAL" pottery.  A gift from my friend who knows I have a thing about little "crocks".  This pottery is called Rolled Oats Pottery.  The piece on the left is a spoon rest and the little crock I will use for kosher salt, or raw sugar...(haven't decided yet). Isn't that the cutest set?  I also found the large linen napkins at Home Goods.  I think I'm set for Spring!!!

SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ OPERA

THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY

Image
Jeremiah 23:29 "Is not my Word like fire", declares the Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" Your Word is like fire, O Lord.  Take my doubts and delusions and make them like straw that is consumed in the flame of Your Truth.  Where my heart is hard, make Your Word a hammer to shatter my self-will and resistance.  Lord, soften my heart and purify me.  I love You.  Amen.
