A NEW COOKIE JAR AND A LOT MORE

Image
I found a new Cookie Jar on sale at Macy's.  It's plastic and has a vacuum seal.  The cookies go pretty fast, but now at least the last on will be fresh! Yesterday was not so much fun.  I had my appointment with my dentist for my teeth cleaning.  However, with new x-rays they found a cavity that was right on the nerve and I ended up getting a root canal.  Perhaps the good news is, if I had started to feel discomfort while at Jill's that would not have been good.  Something about the "winter" of our lives, our bodies just start falling apart, sagging and creaking.  Just had a hearing aid repaired and that's not cheap either.  I laughed and told my dearest, I didn't expect to put my 401K in my mouth and ears.  HaHa.  But praise the Lord, the resource was available.  I choose to be positive. The suitcase in on the bed and I've been arranging and re-arranging because I only want to take one on my trip to Jill's.  It ...

THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY

Image
Grace Moments by Max Lucado I CHOOSE SELF-CONTROL I am a spiritual being . . . After this body is dead, my spirit will soar. I refuse to let what will rot, rule the eternal. I choose self-control.  I will be drunk only by joy. I will be impassioned only by faith. I will be influenced only by God. I will be taught only by Christ. I choose self-control. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek grace. And then, when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest.

RECIPE FOR BREAKFAST CASSEROLE

Image
Had several requests for the recipe of the breakfast casserole I made for the Cooking Class at the Villa.  It was very tasty.  My dearest sampled the corner. HaHa I think you could substitute sausage for the ham for an option.   BRUNCH STRATA 1/3 cup canola oil 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms 3 small zucchini, chopped or thinly sliced 2 medium onions   chopped (approx. 1 ½   cup) 2 cups cubed ham 2 garlic cloves (minced) ½ cup half/half 2  8 oz pkg. cream cheese 12 eggs, lightly beaten 4 cups day old bread cubed 3 cups shredded cheese 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon pepper 1.     In a large skillet, heat oil over medium high heat.   Add vegetables and ham.   Cook and stir until vegetables are tender.   Add garlic, cook 1 minute longer.   Drain and pat dry. 2.     In a large bowl,   beat the cream cheese and cream until smooth.   Gradually beat in t...

A NEW BISQUICK AND AND A FUN SUNDAY

Image
Bisquick has a new "Heart Smart" variety.  Less calories and using skim milk.  I picked it up to use at the upcoming cooking class at the Villa.     I made a small batch of cinnamon rolls this morning using the new Bisquick.  They are lighter and of course I ruined the "heart smart" with my famous drizzle...oh well. They sure tasted good. Also going to use it to make a strudel for the class.  Sunday was such a fun day.  I spent it with our son's wife, which I call the daughter of my heart. We started our day together at MiMi's for a delicious breakfast, and was so busy visiting, didn't get a picture.  After breakfast, a trip to "Kirkland Home", where Chelenne found a cute sign for her bathroom. "Wash Your Hands Say Your Prayers Cause, Jesus and Germs Are Everywhere" Then on to Kohl's, Marshals and Trader Joe's.  Finishing the day with a walk in Old Town Monrovia and a ice cream at Cold Sto...

DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE

Image
DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE.  In my dreams and goals for 2017, the biggest dream was so spend time with Jill and Tristan.   My flight is booked and I will be spending February in Oregon, loving on this precious little guy and his mom and dad.    Keep believing ~ Dreams really do come true.   Will share a few more posts before I leave.

EATING HEALTHY AND NOT

Image
Glazed boneless chicken thighs and fresh veggies!  A healthy dinner. Not so much!  HaHa.  Blueberry strudel!  I had to make one.  This is what we are making at the cooking class at the Villa this month.  I had to make sure it would taste good.  Right?  Two versions.  This one is made with Bisquick and blueberry pie filling.  Also I make one with pie crust.  It's lighter and flaky, but the Bisquick recipe is very quick and easy. Speaking of pie filling, the trick of pie filling on cottage cheese for lunch from Betsy's plan is so good.  Now I keep pie filling on hand. What do you have for lunch?

ODDS AND ENDS

Image
My dearest has found a perfect spot to read his Bible while I'm shopping at the Mall.  The Paris Baguette on the ground floor.  Fresh coffee, a pastry and morning devotions.  He's a happy man. A happy Molly, taking a nap with her teddy bear.   The recent rains have given all the plants in the Villa a bath.  Everything looks so fresh and clean. This is my exercise machine.   I use it several times a day.  This is the "UP" mode. This is the "DOWN" mode!  So far today I've been up and down 4 times.  Why go to the gym...HaHa I completed the first week in my "Flourish Journal" and the first coloring page.  It was fun, and the first week was on God's love.  I know I will enjoy this project each week. How is your new year going?

CREATIVE TUESDAY ~ 2017

Image
Painting by Nigel Van Wieck (NY series)  Creative Tuesday is taking a different turn this time.  Michael gave us this painting, and wanted us to observe it and see if we could come up with a story behind the story.  The following is mine. The power of observation tells me a little about this gal.   She’s comfortable in her own skin.   No fancy clothes to impress anyone.   A warm and rather old fashioned sweater…for warmth, not looks.   A headband says, I don’t have time to work on my hair, and I don’t want it in my eyes.    A plastic grocery bag by her feet, and a book by her side tells me she’s on her way, like every other day.    She works at a women’s shelter in the inter city.   She’s giving back.   It wasn’t so long ago, that she too was living in a shelter.   I like her, don’t you? The rest of the instructions, was to come up with an illustration of our own, and tell it's story. ...
