CANDLES, COFFEE AND SOLITUDE

Every morning, before putting in my hearing aids, I light the candles on our coffee table and sit sipping that piping hot coffee.  It's my time for silence, solitude and prayer.  When I don't start my day like this.....I can tell the difference!!  (The noise you hear in the background is the TV in the other room where my dearest is...but remember, I don't have my hearing aids on, so it was silence for me..HaHa)  I was surprised when I played the video of the noise.

But after my quiet time, it's off to do the tasks of the day.  The ladies in my Tuesday morning Bible Study group are doing the "Sharing Plate".  A plate that has no home, because it keeps getting shared and passed on.  Last week my Bible study leader, Jessica, gave me the plate filled with yummy chocolate cookies.  Last night I passed it on with scones (white chocolate, apricot, cherry, walnut with drizzle).  Wonder who will get it next?  Have you every done this?

Update on my dearest .  All tests have been done, and now we wait for the consultation from the lung specialists for answers.  Thanks again for all your love, support and prayers.

  1. I really love your start to the day. How peaceful and prayerful.
The waiting is so difficult sometimes. Dave and I continue to pray for both of you and that there will be meaningful answers.
Those scones look delish. Lucky lady that gets them.
I like the idea of a sharing plate.
Please continue to pray for our step-granddaughter Allie. Things are still difficult. I will fill you in later through email or messenger. Too much and too private for this comment.
    Love you bunches.

  3. Hi Wanda...
I have had hearing aids for a year now...
Sometimes they are great...other times, I find it too much.
When my family is here, it can get over whelming for me, and I need to make adjustments.
Do you have the app to adjust things?
Good to hear you and Don will be getting some answers soon...
    Take care...
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

    1. Hi Linda ~ Yes, I do have the app to adjust volume. How nice is that new tech stuff. I still need a few miner adjustments, but really like the new hearing aids. Don has concluded the tests, so we are anxious to have our consultation. Love and Hugs

  5. I should start a way to begin the day. That is a nice custom. I have never heard of a sharing plate but that is a great idea. I should start it with my Tuesday Ladies Bible Study. Still praying for you and your husband.

    1. Retirement does have some advantages..like having time in the mornings to sit and have coffee, pray and meditate. All my working years I had to carve out different times. I think your ladies would enjoy doing the sharing plate. Thanks for your prayers...we are getting close.

  6. That is a wonderful way to start the day. I can not handle the news so haven’t watched morning news programming for years. I don’t believe in being force fed. Good thing for your hearing aids. I once had A Giving Plate specifically for this purpose...it is long gone now. ☺️ Waiting is not easy so we’ll keep on praying knowing full well Who is in charge.

    1. Oh Vee, that is so true. There is never any GOOD news. We live in such a corrupt and evil world. The only Good News is Jesus died for our sins and freely gives is forgiveness we don't deserve. Thank the Lord for the Good News. Yes, God is in charge.

  7. Your video gave me a little giggle. I bet you were shocked when you realized it was so noisy during your prayers. I begin my mornings like that but I don't light candles. I get my cup of coffee and open my Journal, Blackaby Devotional, my Bible and my notepad. You would think I was in Bible School or something. My morning begins around 5 am. I have had kidney stones and inflammation so I missed a few mornings. We are still praying for your dearest. Maybe you will hear tomorrow.

    1. HaHa Cher ~ I almost didn't post it when I heard all the noise in the background. But I didn't hear it....You sound like me when I get ready to study my Women's Bible Study. I'm surrounded by Bibles, comentaries, notebooks, pencils, pens...Yes, we are good seminary students. Sorry to hear of your kidney stones..no fun.

  8. I absolutely love how you start your mornings. I wish I could start mine in some way like that but my 5 dogs are all usually going before I"m even out of bed. I have to wait a bit for any quiet.. I love the idea of the sharing plate and those scones looked delicious!

    1. For many years when I was working full time,I didn't have this luxury. I'm thankful for the retirement years. I can see with your lifestyle it must be hard to carve out any time for yourself. But you have a sweet and caring spirit, and I know God blesses you for that. I love making scones.

  9. My mom had that kind of solitude. She took her hearing aids out and went to bed. Never ever told us we were being too loud. I need solitude too, but sometimes solitude is painful.

I have never seen a plate passed in quite that way but I think it is a wonderful idea.

    1. When I get so angry not being able to hear like normal people, I remember how precious silence is. Yes, solitude can be painful...I try to fill my solitude with the glory and character of my God! That helps!

    2. What I meant was when Mom went to bed, she took her hearing aids out and never heard us whether we were being loud or not. She could go straight to sleep because once those things were out, she didn't hear a thing.

  10. The sharing plate sounds a nice idea. I think many of us like a bit of solitude , but for some its not an option and thats sad.

    1. That true...I'm so glad I have that option. I would think some of your long bike rides gives you some solitude and you enjoy the creation around you.

  11. I do the same, Wanda. Except I get up early while it's quiet and hubby doesn't. I need that time with God before I start the day. Candlelight, quiet, purring cats, Bible, devos, pen, journal, gratitude list.

    1. We all have to carve out the best time. But if I don't do it in the morning....the day slips by. We used to have cats...I loved them..then several of our grandchildren were terrible allergic. So now we have one little Shih Tzu that we've had for 14 years.

  12. Hi Wanda! I've enjoyed reading your blog. The sharing plate is an excellent idea and I would love to taste one of your scrumptious homemade scones. I have a weakness for hot bread, haaahaha. I have never been a particularly early riser but your candles and coffee at dawn sound relaxing and wonderful. xoxo
