SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ BOOKS

The theme was books.  As I was looking through pictures on google for ideas, I saw the photo below.  It immediately caught my attention.  I loved the photo, the lighting and shadows....and I love Phantom of the Opera and the mask reminded me that.

I did the basic sketch in pencil.  Added black marker for some of the very dark black, and water color to  give it  the warm antique look. I was happy with the outcome.

    1. I guess you either love it or not...I've never seen the live performance, but the movie version.

I did like the way the warm colors came out.

  7. You see, I knew Books would inspire people and it's been so fun seeing what people chose to depict or even write about yours, dear Wanda, being no exception. I love it! Dramatic! I've enver been in to Phantom of th eOpera and wouldn't have guessed that you'd even like it but you see, I jsut learned something new! All the better. :) Great job and thank you so much for finding time to get to this. Love it. Very well rendered, colour too.

    1. Yes, books will always be a good theme and a hundred ways to express them as you can see from all the other artists.

I never saw the live play, but enjoyed the movie and the music a lot. Maybe next week you will learn something else new with my "letters". HaHa. Always, thanks for your kind words.

  8. Wanda,
This is great! I love the colour with the black. And Phantom of the Opera was my favourite. Watched 3 times.

  13. Absolutely lovely take for the theme, Wanda!

I was never a fan of Phantom of the Opera and, although not a fan of opera herself, my Mum did have the double album with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman so I heard it played it a lot. Mum loved Michael Crawford in the comedy series, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Hard to believe that he was the same man in the Phantom of the Opera play.

    1. I guess it's the music that pulls me in. Something rather haunting. I only saw the movie...not the live play.

  14. This is really great, Wanda. I find it VERY hard to draw paper and have it look "real". You've done a wonderful job here. :) xo

Oh yes, 'Phantom' is a huge favorite of mine too.

  16. This is a cool sketch, Wanda. It spoke to me right away, as my daughter is a book lover and has a wall to wall study of books. : )
