Are you looking forward to a brand new year?  I am.  As I looked back over my 2016 Day Timer, I was amazed all that transpired this year in my life and family.

Birthdays, weddings, funerals, laughter, tears, happiness, illness, pain, pleasure, hurts, forgiveness, travels, reading, blogging, praying, LIVING!!

I think we all can relate to that list, and add many more things that filled our days of 2016.

As you can see from my new header, I have dreams and goals for 2017.  Somethings I want to keep the same, but I want to stretch myself and try some new things too.

How about you?

I'm getting my goals and dreams together and will share them soon.  In the meantine may I wish you a

This is the couple Don married in November.   They were honeymooning at Disneyland and stopped by for lunch on their way home.
Since my birthday party last May, Geezers has become a favorite place to eat.
It was raining outside, but that didn't hinder our fun time together.
They are the sweetest couple, and came bearing gifts!!
The restaurant is delightful, and was decorated so nice for Christmas.
I had a turkey club  and chili.  It was the best chili ever, with mushrooms, black beans and olives.  I will add that to my recipe from now on.

Christmas the gift of the Christ child, the gift of salvation, and the gift of friends.

This time of year is very sad for many, and I send my love, hugs and prayers to those who are having a difficult Christmas.  May you find the Joy of the Lord to be your strength.

MONDAY ~ Had my annual checkup with the oncologist.  My appointment was confirmed by telephone.  I got to the office, and was surprised that the door was locked, and a different doctor's name was on the nameplate.  I went back to my car and called the office and said "I'm at my appointment, the door is locked and a strange name is on the door".  "Oh, I'm sorry, was the reply, we moved."   It wasn't just a couple doors down, but in a different town.  Since I only see the oncologists yearly....I'm finding a new one closer.

TUESDAY ~ Ladies Bible Study and Christmas Potluck.  Very nice!
Made my English Toffee this afternoon.  It turned out perfect.  This is my mom's recipe and a Christmas Tradition for our family.

WEDNESDAY ~ Getting my hair cut, and picking up the ingredients for the Chocolate Torte I'm making for Christmas Eve.

THURSDAY ~ The couple Don married last month are at Disneyland for their honeymoon.  On their way home they are stopping by and we're going to lunch at Geezers (where I had my birthday party).  Love that place.

FRIDAY ~ No sure yet??  Maybe clean house?

SATURDAY ~  Make the Torte, and spend Christmas Eve with our daughter Julie and her family.  A delicious dinner and play some games together.

SUNDAY ~ Christmas Breakfast with daughter Michel and her family, and then we will ALL gather at Myk's for a day of Christmas with family and food and fun.

What does your count down look like???

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand:
Ponder nothing worldly minded,
For with blessing in His hand
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.

King of kings, yet born to Mary,
As if old on earth He stood.
Lord of Lords in human vesture,
In body and the blood.
He will give to all the faithful
His own self for heavenly food,

Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.
(~Liturgy of St. James the 4th)

Oh Dear Father, how can we take into our finite minds the magnitude of these words?  From heaven to a manger, to live a sinless life, to pay the price for MY sins on the cross, rise again, prepare a place for me in heaven....I want to shout...but I can only fall on my face, and keep silence, my heart bursting with love and graditude.  I love You.  Amen

Did you peek?  Yes, that famous fruitcake that most people avoid like the plague.  But I'm one of the few that love it, (my recipe) and look forward to it each year.  I freeze most of it, and it will last me for several months.  Now tell me honestly...doesn't it look good?  ~~Ready to go in the oven ~~

My dearest has "two" birthdays.  His legal birthday (11/14/1937) and his celebrated birthday (12/14/1937)  Seventy nine this year.  Celebrating with steak and eggs.
When he applied for his Social Security at 65 they required a copy of his birth certificate, which we didn't have.  We requested a copy from the County Records in Cincinnati, OH.  When it came back it showed his birth date as November 14, 1937.  His mother said it was December 14 and she should know she was there.  But that's not the end of the story.  When he was born he was a premy and weighed a little over 2 1/2 pounds and was in the hospital the first month of his life.  Either they made a mistake on the certificate, or Don's mom brought him home on December 14th and that was the date she always told him was his Birthday.
So on legal documents, it's November, but we still celebrate it as he have for his whole life on Dec. 14.

Our daughter Julie, and our granddaughter, Monica who was 21 on December 15th took Grandpa and myself out to breakfast to celebrate both Special Days.

Now does that look better than "fruitcake"?
Oh how about strawberry crepes?
How do you feel about fruitcake?  Yes or No?

It still looks like "Fall" at the Villa.  This is the scene from our bedroom window where I have set up a new place to blog.  I have a small desk and it's nice and quiet, unlike the desk in the TV room.

I'm missing this little guy!  Tristan is getting so big.  Now I see him every time I open my computer!!

This has been a hard few months.  Two funerals, one wedding, and one 80th Birthday party for a friend.  Lot's of traveling, lots of miles put under out belt.  But it looks like we are past that and now the baking and preparing for Christmas is on.

Three boxes in the mail and looking forward to lots of family time Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I am looking forward to a new year.  I don't make resolutions, but I do have a few goals in mind.  I'll share those a little closer to 2017, as they may change...HaHa.
Will try to get around to visiting everyone again this week.  Thanks for all your comments.

I have several Nativity Scenes, but this is the smallest, and very special.  It was given to me by a Missionary friend.  If comes from Africa, and the figures are made of straw and small bits of fabric.

There is Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.  One Shepherd, Three Wise Men, a donkey and two sheep.

They all fit nicely in the small straw box you see to the side.

This is a close up of the little donkey.  You can see how small he is in my hand.  Isn't he precious.
The final touch on the Persimmon Bread...some drizzle and crushed walnuts.  A bucket of cookies ready.  Chocolate chip, and Oatmeal.
In the background is another of my Nativity Scenes.  This one is on a "Scroll".

Have a blessed Sunday.

All my little helpers are in the kitchen and ready to get baking for Christmas.  Will be making a wonderful fruit and nut Holiday Fruitcake.  I may be the only one that likes it, but "Oh Well, more for me"  HaHa.  It's just full of candied cherries, pineapple, golden raisins, pecans and walnuts.  Very little batter and loads of "crunch".

Made pulp this morning from the bag of persimmons Michel gave me, and half of it made 5 small loaves of Persimmon Bread.  Some of these little ones will be mailed out to friends.
I will be making my mom's English Toffee, Banana Bread, and several kinds of Christmas cookies.

What is on your Baking Menu?

PS.  Thanks for all your comments and prayers.  The service for our dear friend was wonderful, and our travels were safe.

Car is packed, coffee in the travel mugs, and off we go.  Dropping off Molly in Fresno, and then on to our friends "viewing" and tomorrow the funeral service.

Covet your prayers for a safe journey, comfort for the family, and for God to get the glory.

Will check in when we get home.  Hope you all have a great week!

Love and Hugs

Luke 2:13~14  Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying ~ "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

Dear Lord, I cannot comprehend that You, the Creator of the universe took on flesh and were born of a peasant girl.  You, the One who spoke galaxies into existence, became a speechless newborn baby.  You, the One who gave the stars their light, veiled Your own glory and slipped unnoticed into the human race.  You, the One who clothes all of nature in its boundless beauty and order, came to us wrapped in rags and lying in a feeding trough.  The miracle of Your incarnation is all too unexpected, too mysterious, too holy for me to understand.  I can only follow the shepherds to the manger and bow in astonishment and thanksgiving, glorify and praising You for all that I have heard and seen.  I love You.  Amen.

This was the scene for the "Carols and Cookies" at the Church Wednesday evening.  I love the way the cross makes the shadows to become three crosses.
The music was just beautiful and the cookies delicious.
My new header "Holy Night" is my Willow Tree Nativity.  It was gifted to me by two special friends.  The latest was the Three Wise Men.  They just complete the set so perfectly.  See the camel in the background?  What would we do without friends?

We had a sad phone call to tell us a dear friend had passed away in his sleep several nights ago.  He served for many, many years in the church my dearest pastored for 27 years.  The family has ask Pastor Don to have the funeral service, so we will leave Monday for another trip up North.  It's been a hard couple of month's losing two very special men in our lives.

Would appreciate your prayers.
