CREATIVE TUESDAY ~LITTLE TWITTERS

click on picture to enlarge and see details

This has been a very fun theme and project for me as I am jumping back into Creative Tuesday with all heart, new supplies, new motivation and attitude.

The theme is "LITTLE TWITTERS".  You could go in many different directions with a "BIRD" theme.  Since I have always been a fast, loose painter I decided to pace myself, take several days and paint with purpose and detail.

I went to the Library last week and checked out a book on Birds.  I decided to do several different ones, and really try to get every detail as close as I could.

Sometimes I transfer what I want to paint, but since this feels like new beginnings....I free sketched first in pencil, and then painted each bird slowly, adding layers and details.

If you are wondering about the "Rusty Oil Can" at the bottom of the painting, that's the way I felt as I put the first stroke on the paper.  I'm really Rusty... and I could feel it.

But as I finished the first bird....new excitement and energy came and that old passion was back.  Again I want to thank Laurie for her words of encouragement.  It was that little "spark" that got my fire going.

Can't wait to see what the theme will be next time.

Give up ~~~ second from the left, front row.  Mini Skirts were in and so were nylons....long hair and glasses!!!  Yuk!!

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE

When I sat down to have my Sunday morning coffee and devotional from the new book Kris gave me the other night, I saw that I was all color coordinated with my aqua cup.

I had been hearing about this book from several people but did not know exactly what it contained.  If you are familiar you know it's daily reading for the year that are Scriptures put into thoughts as if Jesus was talking to you personally.

Reminds me a lot of my Maranatha Worship Bible.   I've only read a few, but they are short and to the point, and a Scripture reading is added at the end of each one.

We are going to late service today, so I'm enjoying my coffee in my nightgown and a little blog time.  Hope you have a super Sunday.

Had you heard of this book?

ODDS AND ENDS

When I saw this cloud pattern, I thought of prayers like incense rising to heaven.  Do you see the prayers....?

Molly had her annual check up this week with a new Veterinarian.  I had to smile when we walked into the examination room and the white board was welcoming Molly!

The report after the examination was "Excellent Condition"...that was good news for our Molly who is a senior at 11 years old.

Can a friendship last a life time...We are proof.  Met Kris when I was 3 and she was 4.  Lived across the street for 18 years, went to Biola College together.  I married a preacher and Don and I have spend our live in ministry.  Kris married Ted and they have spent their lives with Wycliffe Bible Translation, and over their ministry translated the New Testament into the Zapotec language.
They live in Tucson, so don't get to see them often, but last night we had the chance to be together.  I look at this picture and see two happy, giggly little girls.

I have a new friend that comes every day to the balcony and sits a while.

This is "SUGAR" our great grandsons cat.  Just beautiful.   I hadn't seen a long haired Calico cat in years.  Look at those eyes.

Well that's my odds and ends for today.  Have a great weekend.

LASAGNE SUBSTITUTE

I've been in the mood for Lasagna for a long time, but never have all the ingredients.   I had picked up a box of lasagna noodles so I figured I could do some substitute.

Recipe calls for Italian sausage ~ I used hamburger
Recipe calls for Ricotta cheese  ~ I used cottage cheese
Recipe calls for canned tomatoes
and tomato sauce                        ~ I used Marina Sauce

Wanted to use up some of the fresh zucchini so grated two cups and added it to the cottage cheese Parmesan cheese and eggs.

It made a huge casserole....We ate a delicious dinner, and I have two containers left over and frozen for another time.

APPLE PIE FOR DESSERT

We had a lovely anniversary.  Went out for lunch and brought home leftovers for dinner.  We were too full for dessert at MiMi's so when we got home I took care of that!!

There were three apples that needed to be used, and I have a cute "little" pie pan, so tonight we watched the Dodger's win on TV and enjoyed a cup of coffee and warm apple pie.  Yummmm.

I already had my pie in the oven before I remembered my "pie bird".  However I used Elizabeth's old drip pan and it caught the drippings.  HaHa

Thank you all SO MUCH for your lovely comments on our Anniversary blog.

CELEBRATING EIGHT

Issac and Matthew having a great time at Issac's 8th Birthday Pool Party.

Lots of cousins to help Issac celebrate.

I thought this sign was really cute.

Swimming and water gun fights really gets a guy hungry.  No problem...plenty of Pizza.

Cup cakes are always a good Birthday Treat.

Yeah! Present time.  Matthew on the right was more excited about the presents than Issac, I think,  Every time Issac opened one...Matthew couldn't contain his excitement.  I guess he knows he'll get to share in the fun.

It was so cute, as Issac read every word in every card.  I think he enjoyed the cards as much as the presents.

Grandpa got a Father's Day present at the Birthday Day Party.  You know how much of a LA Dodger fan he is.  Well his new shirt has the big LA, but as you can see it stands for
Lord Almighty...He loves it!

It was a great Father's Day, and Birthday.  Loving our family so much and so thrilled to be living close to them.

A GLIMPSE INTO MY DEAREST

FATHER
Exodus 20:12 (NIV)
   “Honor your father ……..”

My dearest is a very private man.  But today he opened his heart and gave us a peek into his childhood.  Not only was I touched by the beauty of this praayer, but his children also.  So I share for my Sunday Meditation a glimpse.

"Dear heavenly Father this Father’s Day finds my heart stirred with thoughts of my Dad, raised in the country, a child of the great depression who lived through many difficult days. And though his years were few, just 52, he loved his family and worked hard to provide for us.

My memories of him are limited for I only knew him for 12 years before our home was broken through the stress of irreconcilable human relationship that often leads to despair and divorce.

Yet, he was my father, I bear his name and image. Some of his traits and disposition are mine. And though I did not know him well here, we will get far better acquainted in heaven where all things will be made new and infinitely better.

So Father, I thank You for my Dad, and want to honor him with an expression of my love and respect that will find its full bloom in heaven and our anticipated joyful reunion.

Through Jesus with whom all things are possible! Amen"

GOT UP ~~WALKED OUT

I enjoy a good movie.  We have a wonderful little theater in Old Town Monrovia and I've seen several excellent movies.

I am very particular about the movies I choose, as I don't go to R rated movies, and check out the PG~13 before choosing one.  I reviewed the trailer, and reviews and they were good.

Based on a true story of the Beach Boys, (Love and Mercy) it was very interesting, as I didn't know what a troubled young man Brian Wilson was.  The first half of the movie was about the music and flashbacks of just how troubled he was ~then in one scene the language began...Taking the Lord's Name in vain over and over is more than I can tolerate...So I got up, and walked out.

Have you ever had to walk out of a movie because you were unaware of the "content" or "language"?  I concluded from what I did see that Brian Wilson was like Amadeus ~ Brilliant but deeply troubled.

The free popcorn, however, was very good!  I was wishing it was Kettle Corn, so poured a packet of sugar over the melted butter, and walla...Kettle Corn (Sort of)  HaHa

Since the movie was such a disappointment, I decided to not waste the rest of the day so stopped at Michael's and picked up some watercolor paint and a new watercolor sketch pad.

I had completely cleaned my pallet since the old paint was dried and hard.  I had forgotten how expensive good paint is, so limited this shopping to the basic colors.  Will add more a few at a time until my pallet is full again.

Now to find a good place to paint.  In Hughson I had an extra bedroom and turned it into my studio.  In Sunland, it was the washer and dryer.  Now I have a choice of the kitchen counter or the balcony.  In the cool of the morning...I think the balcony will be perfect.

PS~ I love your comments, insights, opinions, etc.  I try to respond to each and every comment.  Hope you will remember to come back and see my response.

COMPUTER CAT

My sister has two cats and one is fascinated with computers and televisions.  While we were there I set my computer up in the kitchen to check my emails and stepped away to get a cup of coffee and when I looked around...She was checking out my computer.

When I came back to reclaim my chair she wasn't about to budge.   I couldn't help but think of Betsy, and how her cats love to check out her desk and computer too.

She is also fond of watching TV.  Sits right in front of it, especially if it's the Discovery Animal channel.  HaHa

My dearest enjoys the balcony... I love this picture of him and will use it for my banner for a while!

CREATIVE TUESDAY ~ "AQUA"

I took a break from Creative Tuesdays a while back.  I was out of supplies, and truthfully not motivated.  One of my dear blog friend and artist said something that really touch me when I said I was taking a "Art Break".    She told me not to worry, when a painting was ready to be born, I would paint again.  That just kept going over and over in my mind, as I had sometimes called my paintings my babies.

So here I am in the labor room, ready to birth some new babies.

The theme this time is 'AQUA'  and since I am in the process of getting new supplies and paper, this is one I did a while back.  I didn't want to wait, but wanted to get back in the group while my heart was ready.

This was done is a very few minutes just dabbing color and lots of water on paper with out a sketch ~~with summer here....and aqua the theme, it seems a good choice.  That's what I love about watercolor ~it can be very simple or complex.

I'm very excited to be back with the CT group, and so grateful for Laurie's wisdom and her encouraging words.

THIS AND THAT MONDAY

Remember those fresh apricots I brought home for jam??? We couldn't stop eating them and finally with only a few left I decided to try "Apricot Bread"

I used my buttermilk banana bread recipe and substituted a cup of apricots from the blender for the bananas, added a teaspoon of cinnamon and a cup of chopped walnuts.    My signature drizzle and it may be my new favorite!!

I have enough apricot pulp to make another large loaf or several small ones.  It's in the freezer waiting for the right moment.

When we were on our trip, my friend Karen gave me a new Cookie Sign.  I love this one.  "Grandma's Cookies 5 cents each, or a kiss and a hug"

Those fresh vine ripened tomatoes were the perfect side with our crusted fish and salad.  Broiled them with olive oil, cilantro and Parmesan cheese.

We had breakfast on the trip at the Fruit Yard, and they have chickens and roosters roaming the grounds.  I've been wanted to do a watercolor of a rooster....had he posed for the perfect shot.

This was my breakfast ~ Thanks to those hens roaming the grounds and laying eggs.  The omelet was great and the portion of hash browns...big.

Today I have errands to run and cards to write...what's on your To Do List?

THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY

Dear Lord, we live in an ugly world, we live with polluted TV programing, we live with many corrupt people in high places.  Everywhere we turn we are subject to hearing and seeing things we do not want, yet we cannot hide under a rock and pretend it doesn't exist.   I believe the answer, dear Lord, is in your Holy Word as Paul tells us how to deal with this godless world system we live in.

Father, every day let my thoughts be on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy.  When I see or hear something that is not, give me the strength to turn away, or brave enough to stand up and say a word of truth.

Lord, hasten the day that you will return and make everything right.  But until then may we be faithful to live each day acting out these attitudes of love, and give us opportunity to share your Gospel with those who will listen.  I love You.  Amen.

THE WEDDING

Kylee and Matthew.  She was in my Sunday School class when she was just a little girl.  Being at the Church in Hughson for 27 years, we really watched these children grow up.

The professional photographer was taking pictures of Kylee and the Bridesmaids before the wedding when we got there.  I  took this picture and they spotted us.

It was so sweet, they starting yelling Wanda and Pastor Don...How we love these kids (young people).

Kylee's Dad walking her down the hill...(The wedding was right on the river bank in Knights Ferry.  Years ago, Pastor Don married her parents.

Being on the River and the Reception at the River End Restaurant, every thing had a rustic touch.  Just loved it.

The "favors" were Mason Jars with a ribbon and their names and date of the wedding.

I didn't want to get in the way of the professional photographer, so my shots are with my little Cannon Power shot and the zoom doesn't do too great.  But you get the idea.

The next morning after church we went to the Fruit Yard for lunch and what a surprise to see  childhood friends.  Judy was one of my bridesmaids fifty four years ago this month.  We spent many Sunday afternoons at her house or mine in our young days, and even through High School.  I moved away to college....she stayed local and married George.  It was so nice to see them.
