CREATIVE TUESDAY ~ PICNIC

Click to Enlarge to see the details

The theme for Creative Tuesday this time is "PICNIC".   I sat on the balcony in the evening thinking about this theme and what I might do.  My first thought was an Acrostic.  But I couldn't think of any pictures I wanted to use with the letters.

Then it "hit" me.  I have a set of ceramic mice for each day of the week.  Monday is washing, Tuesday ironing..etc.  But Sunday is a "PICNIC".  I jumped up, grab by little statue (dusted it off~ HaHa) and proceeded to make a sketch of it.

Yes, those are chocolate chip cookies.  She will enjoy her picnic lunch later.  Life is short....cookies first.

This is my little "Sunday" mouse.  You can see how small they are and I have all seven on my book shelf.

  1. Ha, perfect for you! chocolate chip picnic, no less. Love it. I actually love waht you did with the painting of the mushrrom colour in particular, Wanda. Well done. I think this could be you too, baking and perhaps sampling a few of those cookies before handing them out to all those little kids eagerly awaiting for your sign to come out. Just as well I'm not there, or you might have to tell one papa that these are for kids ..and mice only! :)

    1. Michael, you knew I would have to throw in a cookie or two. This was a fun theme, and I think my little mouse worked perfectly. The mushroom is done in Quinacridone gold. A wonderful rich watercolor. I use it on skin tones too. She's a sweet mouse, and I'm sure could find a cookie for you in her basket. Hugs. Can't wait for next theme.

    1. I guess you can call me the "copy cat" artist, as I see all kinds of different styles and copy all of them. (with might touch of course) don't want to be accused of stealing...haha.
Always remember Sue... I hold a brush, you hold a camera...we are both artists.

  4. I like it. You should create a childrens story around that character, and then get a job illustrating childrens books.

    1. It does look like it could be a story doesn't it. Each of my little mice statues have a story to tell. Maybe you are on to something.

    1. It was a different take.... I struggled at the beginning wondering what to do. Picnic covers a lot of territory doesn't it? But it was fun, and I was happy with the outcome.

  7. Very cute. Your drawings are always so sweet.
I think I'll pack up my sketch pad, grab a box of pencils, and come sit on your balcony too.

    1. Martha, wouldn't that be a blast...sitting on the balcony, laughing, drawing, sipping coffee and munching on cookies.

  9. Eeee those are so cute! I love the painting and the Sculpture :-D I would love to try and make one out of Sculpey Clay, which I play with a lot and also teach my afterschool students. I used to collect mice figurines too, although they were more sculpted with fur on top, and they weren't ceramic like yours. Still very cute, with little outfits. I just love her sitting on a mushroom and holding her little basket. Beautiful!

    1. Thanks for your kind words.
Each of my little Monday ~ Sunday mice have different outfits and are doing different jobs. I think working with your students and clay would be so fun. I will do a painting of each one and share them from time to time.l

    1. Thanks so much Lissa. Kind of amazing how two black eyes can have life. I think she's proper and doesn't want to get crumbs on her pretty dress.

    1. Betsy, I've probably had them 20 years. Julie got them for me one Birthday. I use to collect mice, and got so many, I began to be very selective. I've loved this little set since Julie gave them to me. They remind me of my mother, because she was just that kind of housekeeper. Washing on Monday, Ironing on Tuesday....etc.etc.
This afternoon I sketched the Monday Mouse and her washboard. I will share that real soon, and also the set.

  14. Your paintings are so delightful! You could illustrate children's books so beautifully! What do you do with your art? I mean, do you just keep sketchbooks full or do you mat and frame? Everything I've ever seen you do is just wonderful!
