MONTE CRISTO

I can only go a few days without posting some kind of food.  After Elizabeth's Memorial Service, her family invited my dearest and me to have lunch with them at LuLu's. in Van Nuys.

Anytime a Monte Cristo sandwich is on a menu, I don't have to make decisions.  It's what I will order.  Not all restaurants  make it exactly the same, but they are all good, but this one was especially good as it had more layers, and the tempura batter was fried golden and crisp and not at all greasy.  I ask for a side of syrup as that's my choice of toppings.  However, I did use some of their homemade strawberry jam too.

If you've never had the pleasure, it's layers of white bread, turkey, ham and swiss cheese, then dipped in a batter and deep fried golden.   I'm drooling as I remember the flavors.

Here's hoping you have a great week.

  1. Now I'm drooling too! This used to be one of my favourite sandwiches. Haven't had one in years. Must remedy that soon. I love Reuben sandwiches too. Yum.

    1. They are so gracious. Henry is a life long bachelor, and Charles is married and has a 37 year old step daughter he and his wife have raised. She was at the funeral, and want to keep in touch, as do the sons. They are a sweet family.

  3. Oh I love monte cristos. I've only had it at one restaurant ever, and it closed down a few years ago. You got me thinking about scanning the internets for a place nearby for lunch. I'm a big raspberry fan, so it has to come with raspberry jam.

    1. There is a little Bistro in Old Town Monrovia that has a really good one too. This one was so big, I shared some and brought some home for another meal.

    1. You need to try one sometime. This one was so big, I shared some, and brought some home for a second meal. Most of the time, they are not 4 pieces but two.

  12. Well, my comment went "south" so I will try this again.
Monte Christo sandwiches are one of my favorites. I always have them when we eat at the Blue Bioui...don't know how to spell it...at Disneyland. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
