COFFEE PLEASE

It was time for routine blood work and I got on line to make an appointment with Quest.  Making an appointment in advance gets you in much quicker than the walk-ins.  Being in Southern CA we noticed there are a LOT more people getting blood work done.

I always make an appointment, and usually I can get in by 9 AM.  But this time the earliest appointment was 11 AM.  And for this particular test, I needed to fast 12 hours.  I don't have a problem fasting.  But not having my coffee in the morning..not so easy.

After my test, we headed for the nearest IHOP's where that cup of coffee at noon ~ was the best I've had in a long time.  HaHa.

Coffee drinkers understand.  My friend George says he takes a thermos of coffee with him so as soon as he's out.....he can have a cup.  We all have our methods...haha... What's yours?

    1. On top of no coffee...we had a notice yesterday that our water would be turned off from 9 till 1 today to repair back flow devices in the complex. That is why we stopped at IHOP's No water at home..

  2. Wanda, I am just like you...I want that coffee in the mornings. I get my blood work done and go right home for coffee. Your friend's idea of taking a thermos of coffee really is smart. LOL. I see your coffee is in a IHOP cup...so hopefully you had something good to go along with it. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Yes, I did! The 55+ 2-2-2. 2 eggs over medium, 2 pieces of crisp bacon and 2 buttermilk pancakes. Oh was a relief it was...and COFFEE.

  3. And you learned all over again why you love coffee. So far, I have not needed regular blood work so this is not my problem. John does have regular bloodwork and he has a hard time waiting until 8:30 am. Having to wait that long is unheard of here. I'm thinking that the events of last summer are responsible for the added traffic.

    1. I don't have to get blood work too often, But since my cancer journey in 2009 I have random check for cancer markers, and now we have a new Gen. Dr. and he wanted a new set of records.

  4. Mine is very easy, I don't drink coffee, never did care much for it. I would take a cup of hot chocolate. Hope all your test turn out great.

    1. You are the lucky one. Usually during Holy Week I give up coffee, since that's about the hardest thing for me to give up.

  5. Our Denny's is right by our Doctor's office and 2x a year we both have to have fasting blood tests. You KNOW where we go right after that visit.

    1. It's good to have a Plan. HaHa. Denny's would be a good choice for a quick cup of coffee and breakfast.

  6. I can relate to this! I love my morning coffee too. When I have to fast for a blood test, that's the first thing I miss! I usually treat myself to breakfast on the way home.

  7. I hear you...I had to fast a lot with the two hand surgeries last fall. The smell of my husband's coffee nearly drove me crazy. I used to make six cups in the morning (which really equaled 3 big mugs). I've cut it in half. I guess I learned from the experience!

  8. I think IHOP, or some other enterprising chain, should have a little kiosk in the lobby of hospitals/clinics so people don't have to go far.

    1. What a GREAT idea. Maybe I could set up a coffee stand (like a lemonade stand) outside the door of Quest in the hall way. But I would sell a lot of coffee. HaHa

    2. I bet you would! One of the huge hospitals here - Mount Sinai - has a couple food kiosks just inside the front door that sell coffee, juice, muffins, sandwiches, etc. It's great for those coming for tests and for those who are visiting people. I have taken advantage of it a few times and it was very welcome.

  10. I'm not a coffee drinker, but a tea drinker and I have taken an insulated mug in my car or driven to the nearest McD's to get hot or iced tea (depending on the time of day). I like Suza's idea above. :-)

  12. Some Tuesday mornings, on my way to Ladies' Prayer, I stop at Dunkin Donuts, but I normally take my coffee at home with a bit of fancy French Vanilla creamer.
Not sure I'd make it to noon without some advance notice.
