This is my friend Elizabeth.  Most of you know her story and that I've been visiting her, first at her home and then after she fell, in a Assisted Living Facility.  She's 98 and I only dream to be as sharp as her.

She was so excited when I got my KitchenAid and since it was impossible to show her in person, I took a picture of it and gave it to her on my last visit.

Today, when I arrived she had several recipes for me.  Here she is with then laying on her lap.  They are almost as old as she is.  The pages tatted, torn, and faded.  She was excited because most of then are bread recipes and she knows I'm anxious to make bread with my new bread hook.

There is a bagel recipe, a 5" popover recipe and a "Real" German Chocolate Cake...No mix here, and the Coconut Pecan frosting from scratch.  The hard part.  She wants me to try all of them, and either take a picture or bring her some.  Her son is making me copies so she can keep her originals.

Today I told her that I was learning so much from her....and she said she was learning from me too.  She pointed to a letter that had a "forever" stamp on it and told me she will love me forever.  Brought a tear to my eye.  I do love this dear woman.

Have you tried the white chocolate M&M's in the Spring Colors?

This morning a bagel with cream cheese and homemade berry jam on the balcony was extra good.  Can you see the reflection of the trees in my phone?

Which animal is real?  Teddy, Bunny or Molly?  Caught her napping in our bed.

Our daughter gave us a Harry David gift basket for Christmas and it had a Potato/Corn Chowder mix that I tried this week.  Just add a chopped onion 2 cloves of garlic to the mix, and after 30 minutes of simmering, add a packet and a couple cups of half and half.

It was delicious and gave me a chance use the yellow ruffle soup bowls I had just unpacked for Spring.

Random Act of Kindness Adventure Week 3

We were walking through the parking lot to the 99 cent store and heard a really nice country voice.  It sounded like it was coming from a speaker, and then we saw Chuck.  He had set up his own little stage complete with microphone and speakers.

We chatted a few minutes and found out he is a veteran and instead of sitting with a cup asking for a handout, he's like a street musician sharing is music and mellow country voice.  It was a pleasure to put a few dollars in his hat, and listen to a person giving back in the way of a song.

It was a two-fold RAK ~ we gave him a few dollars, and he gave us a song!  It was a win-win!

To see all the other RAK's this week check in at Betsy's who is hosting our RAK adventure.

One year ago Friday my "little brother" Hal (10 years younger than me) lost his battle with cancer and took up his residence in heaven.  I miss him and it's hard to believe it's been a year.

He was an outdoorsman in every since of the word.  He loved nature and was a man of many talents.  In the last years of his life he took up photography and was just as good at that as anything else he tried.

I've heard golfers say they hope there are golf courses in heaven.  I think Hal will be looking for a pond to fish in, and take some heavenly pictures.

I miss you are the best!  I look forward to seeing you some day in heaven.

WELCOME TO YELLOW ~ With the refreshing rain, and all the plants blooming in the complex, it was time to take the RED down.  I did enjoy it during Christmas and Valentines Day, but was ready to revisit my bins of Spring Decorations.

I have a red, black and yellow tea it's works well with every season.  Had a yellow crock for my kitchen utensils and spoon rests.  My sign "Here comes the Sun" stays up year round as it brighten my day each morning regardless of the weather.

A view of the kitchen from the living room with a few of my little birds and their nests.  Freddie got clean water today and he is enjoying the view too.

I love sitting out all my little nests, the birds and some eggs on the coffee table.

Because of the restrictions on hanging anything on our door,  my Bunny Welcome sign is on the balcony.  That's find because I welcome all my friends to sit a while on the balcony.

The color on the balcony is "GREEN."  We had a good rain last night, and this morning, all the plants are smiling green.  Creeping Charlie was very happy.

My Spider plant is sporting a few new babies.

I took a clip from Charlie and now I have a new one in the old tea kettle.

All those lovely white blooms are gone, and our treehouse is sporting a new crop of green leaves.  They wet leaves were shinning in the sunshine this morning.

I'm part of a Daily Prayer Blog and my day is "Sunday".  I've been doing a series of prayers on Reasons to Read God's Revelation.  I filled up my car yesterday and was reminded again how much we need our spiritual tanks filled.

This is the fifth in the REasons to REad God's REvelation.

REfule Me.  Psalm 119:131  "I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands."

Dear Lord, I need re-fueling in my life every day.  I long for your Words to fill me like the gasoline filling the tank in my car.  My mouth is open, my heart pants for you.  Fill my life with the fuel of your love, your kindness, your goodness your peace and mercy.

Lord in a world of emptiness ~ Only YOU can REfule us and fill out lives to overflowing, so we use that overflow to bless others.  I love you Lord.  Fill me!  Amen.

Worked on my Women's Bible Study lesson, ran some errands, stripped the bed and put on clean sheets and somewhere in there didn't give a thought to dinner.

Looked in the refrigerator and found a onion, red and yellow bell peppers, mushrooms and spinach.  I had a can of Roast Beef from Costco, half a jar of Alfredo sauce and some pasta.

Sauteed the onions, peppers and mushrooms ~added the beef and spinach.

Put it on a bed of pasta coated with a little of the Alfredo sauce and it was a Quick, Easy and Tasty dinner.

After years of baking with just a little hand mixer, I'm getting the knack of my new "powerful" KitchenAid.  The first batch of cookies I made with it were almost liquefied.  Turn that baby on and before you know it your cookie dough looks like soup before adding the flour.   No so today, I made sure I had it on the right speed for the right length of time and these chocolate chip cookies turned out perfect.  I'm brewing a pot of decaf and my dearest will try one.   I will try "another" one, as the cook has to taste the first one to make sure it's good.  Right?  HaHa.

Hope you had a lovely Saturday, and enjoy your Sunday!   Our forecast is rain.  That would be nice.

Random Acts Of Kindness Adventure 2015 Week 2 '"TIME"

This week my RAK is "TIME" ~ In this busy world it's hard to just take time to visit someone, or talk at length on the phone to a lonely person.  TIME is so valuable that giving it away is truly a random act of kindness.

This is Dana and Daniel.  They live in our complex and don't have many close friends.  They both have some issues.  Some health related, and Dan has some disabilities.  He was born with a withered arm it's difficult for him to do some things but he sure doesn't let that stop him.  Dana has latched onto me and I think God put us here to minister.

So when they call and want to see me ~ I try to give them some quality TIME.   When Dana calls on the phone, she has some difficulty getting her thoughts across,  I let her do the talking and don't rush her.

When we moved here...I ask the Lord to give me a ministry, and he is placing people in my path to do just that.  So my RAK this week is "TIME".  TIME to listen and TIME to care. Because we are retired, I have the TIME to do this.

You can find all the other participants of RAK at Betsy's place.  Just click on her name.

Throw Back Thursday is my sweet Mother ~ August 1988.  Am I not a carbon copy of her.  She was 76 in this picture, and shortly after this she was diagnosed with Leukemia and passed away in 1991.  I'm so glad I look like her.  Every time I look in the mirror, I see her.  btw her Birthday was February 17.  She would be 103.

This is my Thursday.  Laundry.  This is the first time I have not had my own washer or dryer.  The laundry room is really close to our apartment, and they keep it pristine clean.

Sorry it's blurry, but this is how we pay for laundry.  I like it~~ no more coins to deal with.  Just put this card in the washing machine or dryer and add money as needed.  The price is very reasonable and less than the standard coin operated laundry mats.

On my way back from the laundry room I took a shot of our balcony from the ground floor.  I love this little nook that my dearest and I enjoy every day.  Molly enjoys her view too.

Do I get my exercise??? Nuff said!!  HaHa

I saw some new blooms this morning coming back from the laundry room.  New flowers are blooming all over the complex.  Will have to do another photo shoot. soon.

How is your Thursday going?

PS ~ Thank you all so much for the lovely Ash Wednesday comments.  I loved them.

It was the Easter Season 1975.  We were serving in a Baptist Church in Bell Gardens, CA.  My dearest preached a sermon that changed the way I view the Easter Season from that day to this.

The message was about the suffering and death of Jesus.  I had heard many sermons on the subject, but my heart was ready to hear it in a more personal way.  I could stop crying as I felt in my soul the suffering and pain of my Savior.  When I got home, I spent some time in prayer and felt the need to show my love by spending some time in fasting and prayer.

Since that time I have looked forward to Ash Wednesday.  I like to spend a little time each day, either in reflection, study, meditation, prayer and sometimes fasting.

There are many daily devotions for Lent, and now more and more Christians who do not attend a Catholic Church find that the observance of Lent to be a refreshing and renewing way to spend the Easter Season.

This year I'm going to do my own study of the Passion of Christ through the four Gospels.

Do you or your Church observe, Lent, Palm Sunday, or Good Friday?  If you do, I would love to hear about it.

Last Christmas we were given a gift card to the Olive Garden.  We hadn't used it and decided Valentines Day would be the perfect time.  We went early, and missed the dinner crowd.  Was seated immediately and served within minutes.

Don's choice was the "Scampi Chicken on Angle Hair Pasta and fresh Spinach.

I chose the "Tour of Italy" Chicken Parmigiana, Fettuccine Alfredo, and Lasagna Classico.

With coffee we shared a Tiramisu.  "Heavenly"

Why is my dearest laughing so hard....

Since the grandchildren always look for money in their cards, I put a five in Don's.  HaHa

My card had a very sweet message which I will keep to myself.  TeeHee.

Thursday was the "February Birthdays and Valentine Party" at the Clubhouse.  The tables were decorated and the Potluck was very tasty.

The kids aways have fun, and they had a room full of balloons to play with.

This is one of my little "boy friends" who lives in the complex.

They hired a Latin Singer to entertain us, and also show us some dance moves!

Most of the people had left, so some of us gals got out on the floor and had a blast.  None of us were very good, and as you can see, none of us were "teenagers"...this is a Senior Complex..HaHa.  But I'm getting to know the women, and it's great that some of them speak English, even though the biggest percentage is Hispanic, next would be the Asian..and then me and Don ~HaHa!  But we really enjoy living here.  I felt like I was back at my Zumba class.

We know that this is just the place God planted us, so we try to let our light shine in our little corner of the world.

Random Acts of Kindness this week, all involved "Food"...Is that a surprise!  Since I camp in the kitchen it seems that's the opportunities that come my way.  This first picture is actually my dearest's RAK.  We have an older man that lives in his van around the corner from our complex.  We have talked to him several times.  Well his van was impounded as he didn't have current tags and no money to get them.  Don came in an ask me to make him a plate for dinner.  We had already finished dinner, so a sandwich, cookies, banana and water was much appreciated by this gentleman.

One of our friends from our former church had knee surgery, so today we paid them a visit and we took a tray of pulled pork, cold slaw, fresh fruit and berry cobbler.

A plate of scones with pink drizzle for Valentines Day for our neighbor in Sunland with the Meyer Lemon tree.  She got the scones, we got the lemons...So she did a RAK too.

I'm linking with Betsy as she is hosting the RAK for the next few Fridays.  Check it out and join with us.  Let's spread the kindness around.

Today I thought I heard "splashing and laughing" at the pool.  But it's February for heaven's sake.  True, the sun is shinning but this is the first time anyone has braved the "unheated" pool since summer.

It was three young boys and one girl.  I got my camera to document this first dip in the pool.  They said the water was COLD but that didn't keep them from some splashing and fun.  When they saw me, they wanted to know if I had cookies, and I had just made a batch, so after they dried off, they came up for for a few.

I truly love that this complex is FAMILY and Seniors as I love the laughter and fun children bring to a community.

I will be waiting till summer to take my dip!!

It was time for routine blood work and I got on line to make an appointment with Quest.  Making an appointment in advance gets you in much quicker than the walk-ins.  Being in Southern CA we noticed there are a LOT more people getting blood work done.

I always make an appointment, and usually I can get in by 9 AM.  But this time the earliest appointment was 11 AM.  And for this particular test, I needed to fast 12 hours.  I don't have a problem fasting.  But not having my coffee in the morning..not so easy.

After my test, we headed for the nearest IHOP's where that cup of coffee at noon ~ was the best I've had in a long time.  HaHa.

Coffee drinkers understand.  My friend George says he takes a thermos of coffee with him so as soon as he's out.....he can have a cup.  We all have our methods...haha... What's yours?

One of our delights in life is celebrating the birthdays of our dozen grandchildren.  We have at least one birthday a month except November ~ somehow we missed that month.  Elijah was January. February is JON's month and we celebrate his 14th birthday.

It seems like yesterday he and Nick were spending the night almost every Saturday...baking cookies, going to the Dollar Store and Church with us.  Gone are those days...they grow up, they don't find baking cookies that fun, they don't fit on the couch, (HaHa) and their lives move on.  I'm glad, you want them to grow and mature and become the men and woman God wants them to be.

So Happy Birthday Jon.  You are a blessing to me and Grandpa and have a huge heart and a gift of giving.  I hope your day is blessed and this year brings new and wonderful adventures into your life.

White chocolate chip walnut cookies were the first thing I made with my new KitchenAid.  Wow!  I was amazed at the power, and how quickly the dough was ready to put on the cookie sheet.

As my routine, most of them have been given away.  Willie the maintenance man will get a  bag when he comes to fix the fan over the stove. ~~ The landscaper got a bag, and a plate of cookies went with me to Women's Bible Study yesterday.

Thank goodness the cookie jar is almost empty as Don and I were able to fine a YMCA a few miles away that honors our "Silver Sneekers" insurance plan, so we can go free.   Don wants to try the water activities as he has a shoulder that bothers him, and I want to get back into the classes of exercise, balance and zumba gold.

Woke up at 6:00 this morning and felt rested, so slipped out of bed, made a cup of coffee and have half of my Bible Study done, the house clean,  and Freddie's fishbowl has fresh water.  Amazing what I can do if I get up early.

How is your day going?
