A VERY GOOD SUNDAY

We have been looking for a new church home since we moved and have visited several.  Today was our second time to visit and I think we may have found a match!  The worship service was wonderful.  The sanctuary was decorated elegantly and the music just marvelous.  The Pastor is a true Bible Teacher, and that is what we've been looking for.  After church we stopped by Home Depot as I wanted a couple of Poinsettias to complete my "red and green" decorations.

Early this morning I put a pork roast in the crock pot and made a bowl of cold slaw, and when we got home from church, the house smelled wonderful.  It rained today so a hot lunch tasted really good.  Several of you have asked about Molly.  She is doing great.  The wound is completely healed and we have a few more days of medicine and I think she'll be as good as new.  This afternoon she snuggled on the couch for a nap.

Spent the afternoon watching some exciting football, and between timeouts, and half time made a batch of sugar cookies.  The cookie jar has been empty way too long.

Hope you had a marvelous Sunday too.  So thankful for the rain.  Did you have any today?

CHRISTMAS ~ KEEPING IT SIMPLE

Decorations at the Tree House are very simple this year.  Two reasons.  First, I had to downsize when we moved, so much of my larger decorations went to the kids, or the Yard Sale.

Second ~ Because it's a rental we don't have the liberty of putting nails all over the walls ~~~ so I had to be very selective on what went on walls.

I do change my watercolor paintings with the seasons, so I could use the same nail.. haha.

Simple splashes of red and green, and ONE Nativity Scene.  This is a first, since I collect them, and had lots of places to put them in the previous house.  I'll put out a different one next year.

But simple is good and it's done and I can just sit back and enjoy the colors and the smell of all the new candles.

WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING AND A CLOSE SHAVE

Thanksgiving in the Senior Lounge at our Complex was wonderful.  The family all around one long table full of delicious food.  I usually have the camera, but I see someone got a shot of me with my mouth full!

The food table was crowded with every kind of delicious traditional Thanksgiving dishes. A few of our precious grandchildren filling their plates.

All of a sudden we noticed all the men were gone!!!  A trip up to the apartment and it was obvious they had turned my living room into a "Man Cave" and brought the TV into the living room and rearranged my furniture to see the football game.  Gotta love them, because when the game was over...they put everything back in its place.

And what about that "CLOSE SHAVE" ~~that's what Molly got today at the Vet.  We felt a lump on her back and it was soft and felt like a fatty pocket.  Well, it got a little bigger, and she rubbed it on the bed frame and broke it.  So today they cleaned it out, shaved a square of her hair, and gave her some antibiotics.   I have some medication to apply for 7 days and they it should be all cleared up.

How was your Thanksgiving.  Today I started with my Christmas decorations.  Going to take it slower this year and not try to do it in one day.

GETTING READY

A fresh brined turkey from Trader Joe's ~ Sweet potatoes and onions and all the rest of the fix'ins for the dressing.  Will bake a pan of cornbread to add to the dressing. I'm baking the turkey, making the dressing, gravy and sweet potatoes.  Michel will bring a Honey Smoked Ham and green beans.  Julie mashed potatoes dessert, Myk adding a new dish "Corn Chowder" and also dessert and rolls.  My mouth is already watering.

I'm very excited to have our first Thanksgiving at Villa Ramona and be able to use the Senior Lounge for our celebration.

Do you do "Traditional" menu, or do you add new things?

SURPRISE VISIT

We got home from Church and got a call from our daughter Michel.  She said she had her grandsons, and they wanted to come visit  GG and Grandpa at the Tree House.  They brought Subway sandwiches and we had a picnic on the balcony and then played down stairs at the playground.

Issac and Matthew enjoyed drawing and writing stories in their notebooks on balcony and then Matthew showed us how good he can read (he's in Kindergarten).  After a great visit they left with a bag of cookies.  What a special Sunday afternoon.

THANKSGIVING THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.  Know that the Lord is God.  It is he who made us and we are his, we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter the gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.  give thanks to him and praise his name.  For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."  Psalms 100

The Lord through His Holy Word has shown us how to pray a prayer of Thanksgiving.  He is our model for life and practice.

THANKSGIVING AT THE CLUBHOUSE

Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, we celebrated Thanksgiving with our neighbors at Villa Ramona in the Clubhouse.  A traditional dinner was provided by the Staff and all of us tenants signed up for side dishes or dessert.  I decided on pumpkin and pecan pie.

The clubhouse was decorated lovely and the buffet very nice with all the traditional Thanksgiving flavors.
These are a few of my new friends.  The young ladies live on the family side, and the little lady standing is Irma and she lives below us and a very good neighbor.
I thought this decoration was so cute.  Would put that on my table anytime.
This was my plate before I dived in.  Everything was delicious and I must say, my pecan pie was the best I've ever made.

That got my taste buds working, and now I can't wait till next week when we celebrate with our family.  Who will you be celebrating with this year?  Will you be doing the cooking?

THROW BACK THURSDAY

Isn't my mother the perfect "40's" woman.  This picture was taken at Crane Park in Turlock in probably 1943.  I think I'm about 3 and my sister 9.  Love my mom's hairdo and you can see how young I wanted curly hair.  Mom started curling it at a very early age.  My natural hair is still straight as a board.  I've kept curlers and perms in business all these years.  HaHa.  Also don't you love the nylons and heels at the park with that cute dress.  Guess I got my love of frills and lace from this dear lady too.

TUESDATE WITH MY HONEY

Our friends Sue and Dave have "Wednesdate" which is a date each week on Wednesday.  Well Don and I stole the idea, and our date day is Tuesday...thus "Tuesdate"  We like Tuesday because it's Senior day at the Thrift Stores.  Today we hit two, and found some some good buys.

After our shopping we head to IN~N~OUT for hamburger, fries and coke.  I love that they put verses on their cups and fry container.  Proverbs 24:16 "The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again."   A good word...we don't let our problems keep us down.

My best find at the Thrift Store today, was a pair of grey and silver flats.  Even in Southern CA, our toes get cold and I had sandals and boots, but nothing in between.  These are like brand new and fit perfect.  So come on chilly mornings...I'm ready.

CREATIVE TUESDAY ~ CHRISTMAS

We could pick from three Christmas themes for this project.  "Ho Ho Ho", "Good Tidings" or "Christmas Wonder".

I chose Christmas Wonder ~ What could be more wonderful for a child to wake up and find a stocking full of toys, candy and a teddy bear to love.

To see what other artists have chosen just click on the CT Badge on my sidebar and an early Merry Christmas.

MOVING??

No, we're not moving ~ it just looks like it.  I'm taking a break from my break as I have everything done I needed to accomplish before Thanksgiving.

One big item was going through the storage unit on the balcony and organizing my Christmas Decoration so when the last turkey sandwich is eaten and the pumpkin pie gone.... I will begin my Christmas Makeover of the Tree House.

Thank you for so many kind and thoughtful comments while I was enjoying my break from posting.

DEAR FRIENDS ARE COMING

Dear friends are coming today.  Jim and Ann were a very important couple in our lives and ministry at Hughson First Baptist Church.  Ann was Don's assistant and made his life so much easier,   When you have someone to take care of all the administrative duties, that leaves you the time for preparing your messages, preaching and being the shepherd.  Jim led the worship team and is a gifted musician and song writer.

Welcome to the Tree House Jim and Ann.....I'm all smiles.

CLEAN HOUSE AND PUMPKIN SCONES

The house is clean from top to bottom.    Picked up a mix at Trader Joe's for Pumpkin~Cranberry scones.  With a little drizzle perfect with my coffee on this chilly morning.

Got a recipe for Butternut Squash Soup from my friend, Ann, and the big crock pot is full and simmering on low.  A pan of cornbread ready to pop in the oven.

The weather feels like fall and I'm in jeans, sweater, socks and clogs.  Put the electric blanket on the bed last night and my dearest was delighted.  I won't turn mine on until it really gets cold ~ that's why it's "duel" control.  HaHa.

How is was your Monday?

COMMUNION MEDITATION

My favorite Sunday is Communion.  Our church observes this each first Sunday of the month.  I keep notes in my Bible, and as I was reading in I Corinthians about the first communion, I notices an outline I had put in the  margins on 4/7/02.  It touched me then and touches me now as I think about it.

We need to look back ~ Looking back to the terrible price that was paid for our Salvation. (Isa. 53)

We need to look ahead ~ The testimony of the Second Coming...He will come again.  Will we be ready.  (I Cor. 11;26)

We need to look around ~ All the lost in the world that are unsaved and need salvation. (I Tim.1:15)

We need to look within ~ We need to examine our own hearts and take an honest inventory.
Am I truly saved, trusting Jesus only for my salvation?
Am I living with unconfessed sin in my life?
Am I holding an offense against another?

Communion is a time of Worship, Remembrance and Reflection.  A time to make everything right in your heart and relationships.

God Bless you all this Special Communion Sunday.

THIS AND THAT SATURDAY

I was very disappointed last evening when not ONE trick or treater came by.  I'm thinking perhaps it's not acceptable in the complex.  Or all the kids think us seniors don't celebrate Halloween..HaHa  Their loss, as I had nice goody bags by the door ready to hand out.  Guess I'll be stacking on apples, cookies and Kit Kats.

But today was a new day, and a grand opening at a URM Thrift Store. (Union Rescue Mission).

The store was big, clean and wide walkways.  The clothes were very nice and stylish.  Prices were good too.

I found a skirt similar to the one I purchased at Target for less than half the price, a nice gray cover up, which I was looking for now that the weather is changing, and a new purse that has lots of room and pockets. Don found a few things too.  A good Saturday.  Hope yours is too.
