THE DEATH OF A COFFEE POT

I've had my "Mr. Coffee" pot for a long time.  Use it twice a day.  Well this morning it made a sad groan and died!  It was a quick death and hopefully painless for him, but very painful for me as I look forward to that first cup of coffee on the balcony.

Normally, I would just grab my "back up" pot which is an old percolator, but last Sunday our grandson Kaleb and his family were visiting the tree house, and his mom mentioned he wanted to take a coffee pot back to college in August.  So without a thought, I said I have a coffee pot you can take to college, and Kaleb is the new owner of the percolator.

Target, here I come for a new coffee pot.  Maybe I'll try something different this time.

Does your coffee pot get a lot of use?

  1. We have a Keurig and it does get a lot of use. My husband is a coffee drinker, but I can't stand the stuff. This way he has his coffee and I have my tea. Or hot chocolate in the winter and hot apple cider for him. It was expensive, but I've never regretted getting it.

    1. The Keurig seems to be the new trend. So many of my friends have them. I love my coffee, but also have tea when in the mood.

  2. The Tree House must have coffee! What will the monkeys do without it? We have Mr. Coffee maker, but I also have a French Press up in the cupboard. In a pinch I can run hot water through it and have a wonderful cup of fresh coffee. Sadly, I usually forget it's up there.

    2. French Press, those are really neat. Our cousin in Idaho has one, and it was the first time I'd had it made that way. Delicious.
Well this monkey was not happy with instant, so as soon as my clothes are out of the dryer...I'm off to Target.

    3. oh, I am laughing! Did Martha really call you and Don monkeys? haha. Does the caffeine make you act like monkeys or do you act like monkeys when you can't have your coffee?

Oh yes, our coffee maker gets lots of use and if it breaks, I'm out to buy a new one the same day.

Love the idea of having morning coffee on your balcony. What a lovely spot!

    4. Yes, I do believe she called us monkeys. Actually, I think Tarzan and Jane would be more appropriate. HaHa. Although I do get a little crazy without my coffee.

    5. I just of figured if you lived in a Tree House there should be some monkeys around somewhere.

    1. Isn't that the truth of it. I hadn't used that percolator for months, maybe a year or more. Well I grandson needs it more than me to stay awake to study.

  4. Wanda, I think I would cry . I do not have a back up...unless you call my French press one. I do not use it, but keep it around. I have had coffee at work from one.It was good. Funny, I was comment on Linda's Life Journal about coffee this morning. She say her man likes that truck driving coffee. I told her we used to have such strong coffee in our cafeteria at work...I would them them to "Slice off a cup of that coffee please." LOL Hope you get a new Mr. Coffee. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  5. We do like the Keurig. Trader Joes and Aldis seem to have cheaper versions of the k-cups and Costco does too. Goof luck shopping.

    1. Everyone who has the Keurig, really seem to be sold on it. Just never appealed to me. Guess I want an old fashion coffee pot on my old fashioned tea cart. HaHa. Change is hard for me, Bob.

    2. I find that I am a bit more intentional about my coffee drinking these days Wanda. Used to be that we would make a pot and I would drink 3-4 cups in the morning. These days I find one 14oz mug seems to do the trick and if I want more I will make another. Additionally, the Keurig is great for someone like Ann who is in a wheelchair.

  6. Amber has a Keurig here in Qiadville though neither she nor her hubby drink coffee. They keep it for the grandparents and visitors ! I have a little red pot that brews. 2 cups or one large mug. Ld has a large pot . I use flavored gourmet coffee on the weak side. Ld likes hus strong ~ just short of the way Susie described her work place coffee! Nothing last forever but we get our pots at the Goodwill for around $5!

    1. Just had a wonderful cup from my "new" Mr. Coffee. Just a simple one with off and on button, and 12 cups.

  8. I just broke the glass pot on my Mr Coffee pot a few weeks ago. I now have nothing to brew the coffee in.
I guess it's off to Target for me too. Hate having to invest in a whole new thing when it's just the pot, but that's usually what breaks first.

    1. Sue, I saved my glass pot in case I break this one. Try a local thrift store, they usually have several Mr. Coffee glass pots.

  10. We don't drink coffee, I am a tea drinker....so can get by with a tea pot or microwave. Several years ago hubby brought me a Keurig. I love it. I do have a coffee pot for company, but seldom used it. Now it is so quick and easy to make coffee for friends.

    1. I bet 80% of people now own a Keurig. My friends that have them are sold on them. You never know...maybe some day I'll get one too.

  11. It's just me and I make one cup at a time with my Melita filter. We had a Keurig in our office and after awhile I didn't think the taste was that good. I know I'm in a minority and most people love them.

    1. Carol, I have only had them at friends or at the office of our Vet. I remember the Melita filter. That works too.

  13. I can't drink coffee as it seems to give me headaches. I am a tea person - quite strong with little milk. I tend to drink mostly water these days. Lovely to catch up and see your lovely new home. I haven't been blogging much of late as I've had a phase of anxiety ...getting better by the day, thanks to a loving husband, faithful pets and my garden xx

    1. Mrsnesbitt...why I'm thrilled to have a visit from you. Have thought of you from time to time and wondered how you were. The best book I ever read and taught in a Ladies Bible Study was "Calm My Anxious Heart" by Linda Dillow. It changed my life...if you get a chance to get a copy you won't regret it. Love and Hugs and prayers that soon you will be over this difficult time.

  16. My youngest bought me a beautiful RED Bella for Christmas. I'd not heard ot the company, but I am so sold on it! With Mr. Coffee, I always had to pour into my cup over the sink. I kept thinking it was just me, but when I poured coffee from my Bella, voila! no dripping. So, I'm saying you might want to give this brand a try.

    1. Thanks for the tip, but I've already replaced Mr. Old Coffee, with Mr. New. I found if you pour from high...not close to the cup...it won't drip. Something I learned waitressing years ago. If you notice...most waitress do that.

    1. I did...Mr. Coffee (12 cup) works fine for me, but usually with just my dearest and me make 4 cups. (two mugs like you say). But I do have company so the larger one works for me.

  18. One person's misfortune really can be another's gain!

I have not used a drip coffee maker in years as I tend to only drink hot black tea (with milk and a dash of sugar of course). Yet, about 5 months ago, I decided to give a French Press a go as I foudn one super on sale at Starbucks after Xmas stock was being cleared out so I grabeed in and realized i had a coffee grinder never used someone gave me so have been suing this now and then. It makes great coffee but I struggle with getting the grain consistency perfect.
I also came to realise i had a Moka pot but never knew how to use it (as I thought it frothed milk, lol) until my cousin from Ethiopia showed me. It makes fantastic coffee if only needing a cup or two and is super easy! I love it. In fact, I think you should try on too, Wanda Let me know:
