JUNE 24TH..MOVE IN DATE AND ANNIVERSARY

June 24th, the big day...the truck will be here to move us in, and it's our 53rd Wedding Anniversary.  How cool is that!  A new home and a new year of love.  Today we took over a few items and did some measuring to see where we want to put things.  We are going to get in shape going up those stairs.  Not too bad ~ 6 steps and a landing, and then 8 steps...good exercise.

Don took my picture as I climbed the steps with our new keys to see what I can do to make it a ordinary apartment into "Our New Home".

Our porch light and our Apartment number.  The CC&R's does not allow a lot of decorations outside the front door.  They do allow it for Holidays.  So I will have to be creative inside, as you know how much I love to decorated everywhere!!

I took a little picnic lunch so we could have our first lunch on the balcony.

The view from the balcony is so lovely.  My dearest has claimed it as his own.

I wanted you gals to see the "plain ordinary apartment kitchen" BEFORE I make it into MY KITCHEN.   Give me a few weeks and I'll post another picture of the "Make Over".  I took over my little Percolator ~ Gotta have a coffee pot even if you haven't move in yet.

53 years of marriage and this is my first dishwasher!!  Would have been nice when we were raising four kids.  HaHa.  Again, it will be fun to show you the same shot when I get some of my special things set out.

This is the view of the living room and balcony from the kitchen.  I put my little "Home" sign and candles to make it feel like our home until I get our furniture in.

This is the walkway between the pool to the left and the laundry room on the right.  Straight ahead is the clubhouse and Resident Managers office.

The laundry room is spotless, and the machines and dryers very clean.  I really appreciate that. It's open 7 days a week, so laundry won't be a problem.

Chapter One is feeling pretty good!!

    1. Amy, the balcony is pretty large, and there is a good size storage area that locks. I'm sure we will find a little time to celebrate.

    1. HaHaHa...Won't they be surprised when they come to do laundry, and all the machines have cookies cooling... I may become an instant HIT!!! Guess I can cool them on the balcony.. you think?
If you look REAL close, I think you'll see the cup you gave me by the coffee pot.

    2. Yup, there's the cup. :0)

I couldn't help but think of all your baked goods cooling on the washer and dryer in your little cottage. My mind instantly covered those machines in yummy treats. Yes, the balcony will probably due fine for cooling, and maybe even the kitchen counters.

  5. Oh those stairs! We have 11 going up to our door, either out front or from the garage and boy you get tired carrying things up the stairs, and I haven't even mentioned the 14 going upstairs.
    Happy Anniversary.

    1. Maybe the good exercise will outweigh the pain of carrying everything upstairs.

Never moved on an Anniversary...more to celebrate.

    1. Bonnie ~ it truly feels like a "start over" and that in itself is exciting. I'm so glad it's summer, as I plan to start swimming laps and with those stairs...who knows I might just fit in my wedding gown next year. HaHa

    1. Betsy, I already love it...Looks rather bleak inside without any furniture, but how I vision it makes me very happy. See green trees out of every window. Out of our bedroom window is a old fashioned lamp post...so a night light...HaHa.

  10. Happy moving day, Wanda. We've been here almost a year and a half and are still making small adjustments that we intended to do at the beginning. But it really feels like home now. Please tell me you don't have to go down the steps to get to the laundry room. Maybe you have washer and drier in the apartment. Don't forget to take planned rest times on your busy days.

    1. We all make adjustments. This was the ONLY available apt. and we were on a time frame. So we will be going up and down a few stairs. We're retired...haha..so we can take it one step at a time. HaHa. I am pacing myself...and after a few climbs up and down, I can go relax in the pool. Take the good with the bad and rejoice!!!

  11. Okay, after reading your comment to Chris J. I guess I will rephrase my thoughts.
I was shocked to see all those stairs but reading...Take the good with the bad and rejoice... I say I just love your attitude. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
You will definitely make that house a home...all will be welcome and you will be the cookie lady there too.
Wish we could be there to help you with yard sale and the move.
Are you close enough to your church to stay there?
Are you close enough to still visit Elizabeth?
These are things that roll through my head and I forget to ask.
Off to church in a few and then it's week 2 of Breakaway.
After Mark and family visit over July 4th, I think we are going to disappear for a while. Can't afford much but we need to regroup our bodies and brains...(:0)
Love you and Don and will continue to pray for your transition.

    1. Sue, you are so sweet and thoughtful. 6 stairs up to a landing..8 stairs up to apt. Piece of cake for Don and me..we will take it slow and there is a rail on both sides.
We are about 30 mi. from Church. Will play that by ear. Haven't checked out churches near the apt. but can come back from time to time. Also closer to Michel and Myk, could be going with them to church.
I won't be able to visit Elizabeth weekly, but I will continue to visit her.
I hope when you disappear...you will come back refreshed and revived. The transition is going really well...God is putting together little details that make it easier. Fill you in more later.

  12. "The view from the balcony is so lovely. My dearest has claimed it as his own."
-- Ha, well now I can see from your later photos is is YOU who owns that spot now...at least during your morning devotionals. :)

We never had dishwashers growing up and actually I don't think I know anyone still who has one in England. LOL .Then again, the kitchen's for most people are sooo tiny!
