EMPTY HUTCHES ~ FULL HATBOXES

In the past I've shared my two hutches filled with tea cups, tea pots, pictures, tea books, and anything else related to Tea!!!  Today the swivel bookcase/hutch and my mom's hutch are EMPTY~~  And I was able to fill six hat boxes with the items I treasure and want to take with me.  Crossing the hutches off the list!!

Also have sorted through dishes.  I am embarrassed to tell you how many dishes I have.  The ones in the kitchen (Fiesta ware) I use on a daily basis,  and the ones stored in the garage for all the seasons. (Yellow, Fall, Christmas, and miscellaneous colors and patterns from the thrift store) that have jumped in my cart.  Well, it took some time ~ but made some decisions on what I can't part with and what will go.  Those boxes are now packed and labeled and ready to go.  Crossing dishes off the list!

I did take nap this afternoon and recharged my batteries.  When I got up had a nice surprise in my mailbox ~ a book from Betsy to help me in my moving "Clutter's Last Stand" by Don Aslett.  Can't wait to get started reading it.  Thanks Betsy.

  2. I remember those hat boxes full of tea cups.
I am also attempting to declutter but getting rid of Mom's things is almost as tough as getting rid of my own.

    3. Yes, Martha ~ I will pass it on and play it forward. Thanks again Betsy...and Linda our Eat and Pray was really good. Authentic Mexican food, and Banana Bread and cupcakes for dessert.

    5. I am slowly wading through. I was just telling Hannah and Bethany yesterday how easy it is for our possessions to possess us instead of the other way around.

    6. Oh Martha, I read an article many years ago in a Christian magazine called ''It's just STUFF" and it really helped me to see none of it is going with us...most of the time our kids don't want it..so don't let it possess you." You are right...it's hard. I will send you Betsy's book when I finish it.

  4. Good job- Well done! What a tough thing to go through dishes. I just gave my daughter a set of dishes that I had stored. It is a gorgeous set and she was more than pleased to get it. It is hard for me to let dishes go for some reason- xo Diana

    1. Oh my goodness...dishes...I think a lot of us love our dishes. One of my boxes was for my DIL, a set of white Gipson dishes. I love when I can share them with someone.

  5. Moving and purging, quite the job. I too have a hard time letting dishes go, but over the years you gather so much stuff.
All the best as you continue packing.
    Blessings, Debbie

  6. It must be so hard deciding what you are going to do with all of your lovely things Wanda, I hope that you can find good homes for the things that you are not taking with you. xx

    1. Some of the things will go to our children. We are going to a complex that does not have a private yard, so the kids are taking all the patio furniture. That helps.

  8. Yard sale or donating? Make sure you are not getting rid of something valuable, lol. Maybe better move it all.

    1. Can't move it all...but are having some things appraised and will sell, or if necessary put in storage until we can decide what to do.

  9. Maybe I missed something. Are you moving or just decluttering? How do you decide which cups and saucers to keep?

    1. Moving. The house we are rented was sold, so we are moving into a Senior Complex. No garage so some stuff has to go. Some of my cups and saucers were from the thrift store and didn't have sentimental feelings, and also I had some little girl tea sets that I gave to a friend with three little girls. Most of my tea stuff did fit in the hat boxes.

  10. We found that moving is the opportunity to declutter, especially if you're downsizing. Its hard work,I bet that nap was well desrved.

    1. That's what we're doing Dave...downsizing and declutter. The new place is the same size living wise, but no garage and only a small storage area on the balcony. The nap was good...woke up refreshed and ready for the next step.

  11. Dear Wanda, It's so hard not only having to move but facing the idea of having to part with things that have been a part of our life for so long. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your hubby as you make another transition/change in your life. xo

    1. You know I'm really excited now, and making the choices is getting easier. A lot of my decisions will be based on "junk"...my junk...but junk I can life without. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers..they truly are appreciated.

  13. Finally catching up with your blog posts since you have been away. What busy life you have! How sweet of Betsy to send you the book. I have read that one plus a couple of his other ones. Sadly, I don't think it has helped! I am a collector by nature and I really have to whittle down. Sounds like you are doing a great job at that.

I was sorry to hear the reason for your trip was for your brother's memorial. I lost my youngest brother 7 years ago when he was 47. Very hard. But it seems you celebrated his life well - what a sweet chapel.

I wish you all the best in your move, Wanda. And I didn't know you painted! Loved the oak tree piece. Reminded me of drives through the country. I love red barns too.

A move and an upcoming wedding. Wow. Things are hopping! Pretty silver sandals, by the way.

    Best of luck.

    Suzanne
