CHRISTMAS DAY

Everyone likes pumpkin pie, but this one was made with Kaleb in mind.  He didn't get come home from college back East for Thanksgiving, so made a special request for pumpkin pie for Christmas.

You can see he and Elijah are both enjoying a piece.  Actually Kaleb had two pieces on his plate and I couldn't see it for the real whipped cream.

The four layer torte turned out nice, and the mousse filling and topper was really delicious.  I was going to frost the whole cake with whipped cream...but that was just too much sugar.

It was a beautiful day, but as evening came the fire pit was lit, and several of the older grandchildren enjoyed eating by the fire.  Roasting marshmellows came later.  It was a great day.  We had a blast with our Secret Santa exchange gifts, and when our family gets together, before long we are laughing so hard our sides hurt.  Get our son Myk, and our oldest daughter Michel together it like stand up comedians.  Love our family.   The only thing missing that would have made it perfect, was not having Jill, Jaya and Tristan with us.

I trust you had a good day too.

*Decided it was time to give the blog a new look and I love hydrangeas and was ready for some colors besides red and green.

  1. What a lovely time you had! Your desserts look wonderful! College boys that are athletes certainly can put away the food, can't they? ha.

A fire pit at Christmas,...now that is something we have never done. But at 13 degrees on Christmas, that would have been a little chilly! haha.

    1. The fire pit was a really nice touch to end the evening. Something about a fire pit that really brings out the conversations.

  3. Oh that fire pit looks so nice! I'd love to have one of those. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas. Your pumpkin pie sure looked pretty with the little leaves you added to the top. When my son gets back home from boot camp, I'm sure I will be busy baking for him too!

  5. Aw, your Christmas looks and sounds amazing.
Not sure if we'll be doing pie or not this time, but maybe. I do have a jar of grape pie filling. Maybe Michele would like to whip up a pie with me.

    1. Martha, I have a confession...When you sent me the pastry blenders...you also sent a jar of grape pie filling. The jar was so cute...it's been sitting on my shelf...It will become a pie in 2014...I promise.

    2. Michele's is going home with her to become grape tarts. (I bought hers in October.) Monica makes the best grape pie filling. :0)

  6. Now I want pumpkin pie! I think that is going to be part of my New Year's dinner. I didn't get any for Thanksgiving this year and now I'm craving it.

I have to agree that the fire pit was a nice touch. It would have been too cold here (22 degrees), but I think I want one for this coming summer.
