Our son Myk cooking up the hot dogs for a fabulous "Football theme Kick Off Party for Kaleb heading to college in a couple of weeks.

Saturday we so enjoyed Kaleb's Kick Off to College Party.  As you can see it was all about "Football" and for good reason.  He has signed with Greenville College in Illinois on a Football Scholarship.  Our DIL made football brownies, and we tried to make a watermelon into a football helmet.  It was a delightful time.,  Kaleb has a very sweet girlfriend who will be attending a University in Colorado.

Another treat at the party was seeing our Great Grandsons who are getting so big.  Issac is six, and Matthew will be 5 in October.  Matthew got an "owie" on his arm and let Grandma kiss it!  Awww!
Special little family.  Our grandson Michael, and his wife Candice in the top photo.
Both Myk and Chelenne gave wonderful speeches and good advice and lots of love to Kaleb at the party, and I was able to capture all the good stuff on video.  That will always be a treasure for our family.

Our letter this week is "C" and I'm using some pictures I took at the Descanso Chrysanthemum Society 79th Annual Flower Show.  It was called "Ocean of Mums" and indeed it was.  Descanso Gardens is a lovely place 15 minutes from our home, so I visit it often, and on this day got to enjoy Chrysanthemums that are loved world wide.  Such an array of different types.  Do you like Mums??

Psalms 90:8 "You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

Sitting on the couch, sipping a cup of tea my Bible open on my lap.  Reading Psalm 90.  As I read a beam of sun came through the window, and exposed what appeared to be a clean room.

I was amazed at the dust on the coffee table, and a couple of spots on the carpet.  Yes, that sunbeam was exposing my dust and dirt.

This verse suddenly had new and profound meaning for me.  I drew a little picture in the margin of my Bible and wrote "God pervades us as the sunbeam reveals all the impurities in our life! Search me O God!

Dear Heavenly Father, help me not to be afraid of your sunbeam revealing my secret sins.  This is only for my purification.  Help me to see it, confess it, and get on with basking in your light, and the light of your Word.  I love you. Amen.

This is a action packed week in our family.  Three big events.  Our grand daughter, Monique turns 25,  grandson, Nick turns 14, and grandson, Kaleb leaving for college in Illinois.  So, I had to go to the archives for my SWF pictures and the best I have are Tahoe.

Storm coming in, but we don't care, we have a perfect view from the cabin.

This is the scene sitting on the couch looking out the bay window.  Can't wait till the end of September when we will be spending another week there.  Finally, some NEW pictures to share.

Hope you have a lovely weekend...We will be celebrating all weekend!!

We are at letter "B" in our new Round 13 and I thought it a good time to share my BIRDS and BIRD NESTS.  The top picture is an Antique Bird Clock.  Cast Iron and very heavy!  It works which makes it especially nice.  Bottom left: The birds are not real (of course) but the tiny nest, the size of my thumb, is real.  It's a humming bird nest my cousin gave me after the humming birds vacated and didn't come back.  Bottom right:  Again the nest is real.  Fits in my tea strainer and found it in my back yard, and it is intricately made using bits of Kleenex, string, cotton and feathers.  So soft to the touch.

The bird nest in the top picture is completely made of twigs and moss.  It looks real, but not sure it is.  It was a gift.  Bottom left:  These four little birds keep track of the almonds, but don't eat any. HaHa.  Bottom right:  This is my "Jade" bird and it was given to me over 40 years ago.  It's from a Boutique in Santa Barbara.

So there you have it!  Is the Letter B for the BIRDS...I think so!!  To see all the other participants for this fun ABC Wednesday meme, just click on the ABC Badge on my side bar.

A rather quick weekend in Santa Barbara.  Not time for many pictures.  We got there on Saturday afternoon.  Took a walk to the pier and the flowers along the sidewalk are so beautiful and colorful.

It was an overcast day, and not many people on the beach or boardwalk.  I had a couple of gifts to buy for a grandson's birthday, and another grandson's Kick Off party and then off to college.  The shops on the boardwalk are always fun to shop at.

It was fun to hear my dearest preach, as that was the reason we were in Santa Barbara.  Don is filling in for our friend and Chaplin at a Retirement Center while they were on a vacation.  We get to do a repeat next weekend.  Always fun to go back to Santa Barbara as we have memories of living there in the 70's.

We have a Cactus on our back fence and once in a while it blooms.  The pod shows up, and the next day you have this beautiful bloom, and then "poof" within a few hours, less than a day...it's gone. Swivelled up to nothing.

I took this picture this morning, and by nightfall it will be gone.  It made me think of praying.  We might tell someone with all good intentions we will pray for them...and then "poof" we forget, and the moment has passed and a blessing lost.

Dear Lord, help me daily to seize the moments to come to you in prayer.  For the little things in life and the large ones.  Help me to pray for those I love and care about, and not let a fleeting moment pass that I can lift someone up in prayer. Thank you for always listening, and ready to give us an answer and the grace to accept that answer.  I love You.  Amen.

It's seldom I get out for a "Photo Shoot" especially for SWF.  But I do keep my camera handy, and most of my sky shots are from our car.  These clouds looked so heavy, I was fearful they would fall on the freeway and smash all of us like some "Special Effects" in the movies.

A little later, the sun broke through, and the cloud completely changed colors.  Rather amazing.

Today starts a new round of ABC Wednesday.  So of course it would be the letter "A".  I've been out of town for a few weeks with a new grand baby, so didn't get to finish up with the last round.  I was determined to get started with this new one, but found I had a lot of ANXIETY, because it's time to post, and I couldn't come up with one good "A" word or subject.  I was feeling some anxiety and realized that started with "A".  How perfect!!!

These pictures I got from (googleimages.com) really do picture that awful feeling when you are anxious.  Years ago, I read and taught a Bible Study for Women on "Calm my Anxious Heart" by Linda Dillow.  It is a hands on manual for dealing with the everyday stresses than can turn a calm heart into a anxious and fearful life.  No one wants to live that way.  I truly learned how to live a contented life in a not so contented world.  However, I really did need an "A" word, and time was running out!!!  Hopefully "B" will be a little easier next week.

This new Round 13 had a new badge.  To see all the other participants and what they have decided to use for the first letter of this new round, just click on the new ABC Wednesday Badge on my sidebar.

Elijah, our grandson and Goalie for the Water Polo team from his High School did a great job as they won this game Sunday afternoon.

After the game, we had  lovely lunch at The Olive Garden.  While we waited for our table, we took a few pictures.  Our grandsons, Elijah and Kaleb (16 and 18) tower above me, as memories of my holding them like I did Tristan a few weeks ago, are overpowered my two grown young men.  Kaleb will be heading to Illinois to college next month, and we will all surely miss his smile and sense of humor.

Grandpa and our son Myk look like the "Blues Brothers" HaHa.

I love this picture of this Special Family.  Chelenne is the daughter of our hearts, and a wonderful mom to these boys.  She home schooled for most of their elementary years and I can only imagine her life with our son, and these boys who all three could be stand up comedians.  When we are together we are constantly laughing!  But then, isn't that the best medicine.  I just know how much both of them will miss Kaleb as he leaves the nest.   He assured us "HEY, I'M COMING BACK...HAHA"

The theme for this session is "SHIP".  There are so many ways this theme could be expressed, but I chose to take a huge ship (in the Biblical story called an ARK.) and make it into a "cartoon" style picture.

This quick sketch was made with a black sharpie, and then colored with Prismacolor  pencils.

Tea has always been a favorite of mine.  Not only do I have a tea collection, i.e. tea pots, cups and saucers, strainers, and a collection of teas.  However, I have been drinking coffee for a long time and my tea collection gathering dust.   All that to say, this week I was invited to lunch by a friend who just came back from a cruise to Alaska, and on their trip they visited a Tea House and she brought be a bag of White Heather Queen Mary Tea.

This morning I washed the dust off the tea pot and cup, and tried a cup with a Banana Muffin with Crumb topping I made this morning.  DELICIOUS!!!  Think the coffee will be on hold for a while!

Friday the grandsons spent the day, we enjoyed the Dollar Store, and a movie "The Lone Ranger" and then it was time to take them home.  I had my grandson, Jon take these pictures as we headed down the freeway to their home.

I had to laugh when I downloaded the pictures, as I see Jon wanted to make sure we were on the right  freeway (The 210 West).

I called her the "Bird Lady" because I would see this lady feeding a flock of pigeons at her front gate every day.  I referred to the house as the "Bird House".   Since that time, as many of you know, I befriended the bird lady, and her name is Elizabeth.  She is delightful, and has become one of my dearest friends.  For 5 years we visited over the fence, and I would take her cookies, banana bread and even painted a watercolor of her standing at the fence.  She fell, and could not continue to live alone, so she now resides in what I call "The White House" a very nice Assisted Living Facility, and I visit her weekly, and love to hear the stories of her 96 years of living. And she's determine to teach me to crochet!!

After she moved into Assisted Living, the house she had lived in for 27 years was completely renovated, and remodeled.  You can see they added on a room, and cleared the yard, and put up a new fence.  I saw inside when the Real Estate Company had an Open House.  Over the next couple of months several people looked at the house, and it was sold just before we went to Oregon.

Today, I took a jar of my plum jam and a dishcloth I made and met the new owner to welcome them to the neighborhood.  Turns out I have another elderly lady to visit.  Her name is Diane, and she lives with there with her adult son that takes care of her.  She has other children in the area so has a lot of family around her.  She was delighted with the visit and welcomes me back.  I love being retired and having time to do this.

One Month Today

The video of the mother deer and her babies in Jill's front yard wasn't working for anyone.  Not sure what I did wrong, but it was so cute as the momma brought both her little fawns right up to the porch.  Nature is all around them, and they enjoy it up close and personal. I'll ask Jill to get a still shot so I can post it later.

This is Jill and their precious Tristan at one month.  What a happy and fulfilled momma.

I sent her a poem someone put on fb saying a boy's first kiss was from his momma.  So true.  What a sweet kiss it is.
Happy Birthday Tristan...You are One Month Old!

We have some lovely neighbors.  They moved in next door about a year ago, and we have become good friends.  Their son, Dante has spent a lot of time with our grandson's Jon and Nick when they come to visit. Dante's mom, Huong is a wonderful cook and has brought us some delicious dishes from her country Vietnam.  Bret ask if I would bake a birthday cake for Dante and I was pleased to do so.  Last night we were invited over to share some cake and celebrate Dante turning 10 years old.  His first Decade.

Having good neighbors is a blessing.  We have good ones, on both sides, and across the street.  I can hardly believe we've lived here over 5 years.

Knitting to pass the time as we drove to Oregon last month has started an addiction!!  I can't stop making dishcloths.  Got tire of the same pattern, so looked up a different pattern and watch a video and did one with the "basket weave stitch".  The only thing harder with this one, is you have to keep track of how many stitches you are knitting and pearling.  Being a novice, that wasn't easy.  Had to rip out the first try.  I think I'll have a "Give-Away-Dishcloth".  Anyone interested?

Got a lot done this morning.  Baked a birthday cake for the neighbor boy, Dante, turning 10 today.  Stripped and washed sheets, and changed the bed.  Made the dearest and me an omelet for breakfast, and watered my three stalks of volunteer corn in the flower pot.  They are growing.  What's on your schedule for Monday.

Got my Apricot Jam made from the bag of apricots we got from our cousin in Bakersfield.  Yum, yum my favorite.  This is the first time I've had two kinds of homemade jelly and jam in my pantry for a long time.

Don and I stayed home 4th of July, so I made us an "indoor picnic" of a "bun less" hamburger smothered in grilled onions, bell peppers and mushrooms, a pickle and a corn on the cob on the side!  Molly was rather nervous with the fireworks going on.

And Jill just sent me a new picture of Tristan at 3 weeks.  What a serious little guy.  They live in the forest, and she said he loves looking out the windows at the trees.  Knowing his daddy, I'm sure he'll have a tree house when he's big enough.  I told her make it strong enough for Grandma to climb up with him...HaHa.

Hope your 4th was enjoyable.  Today the grandson's and the neighbor boy are coming over and we're going to see a movie.   What's in your plans today?

With 4th of July just behind us, I'm using a picture I took at our local parade to share the Red ~ White ~ and BLUE sky.  It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky.  Blues skies for a SWF.

Taken one month before our Wedding June 24, 1961.  The house in the background is where I spent the first 18 years of my life, before heading off to Biola Bible College where I met and fell in love with my Dearest.
