SEVEN YEARS AGO ~ TODAY

Click on pictue to enlarge

Seven years ago, today with fear and trembling I pushed the publish button for my first post.  I called my blog "Brushstrokes from the Heart ~ Wanda's Way of Life to share my watercolors.

The banner at the top was my header for many years as I share my paintings.

But life changes.  We retired, we moved closer to family, and I put my painting on the back burner.  My family and my new little kitchen became my love.  I still love to paint, but find myself only doing it for Creative Tuesdays.

Life is interesting that way...

I do love to paint children, and the ones in the banner are from a brochure for Samaritan's Purse, Operation Shoe Box.  The girl in the white dress is kneeling in adoration and worship.

When did you start blogging, and why?  Just asking!

PS ~ Such a busy weekend with Jon's Birthday and Super Bowl, I didn't get back to respond to your comments on the Nursery, but loved them all.  Thanks.

  1. The header photo is beautiful, Ms Wanda! Pleas don't ever stop painting... :)

I started to blog because I think I wanted to be a writer which I have realized lately. Also, I am able to meet interesting people like you!

Take care and enjoy the rest of the week!

    1. Hi Farida ~ Yes, I think the best part of blogging has been the wonderful friendships I've made over years..Like silver and gold, the old ones, and the new ones I meet.

      Sending love.

  2. I love your blog, Wanda...weather it's something funny, thoughtful or inspirational! And I remember that header!
I understand what you are saying about the painting...I find that without CT, I am no longer drawing. It makes me sad! But without a due date and assignment, other things just crowd out time. I love your water colors...you do it so well! Happy Blogiversary! xo

    1. Thank you Betsy...Some of my dearest friendships are with gals like you I've never met in person, but share with on a daily basis. Deadlines can be a blessing and a curse...CT does keep my mind on painting, and Mmm has been stretching out the deadlines so that helps.
I guess you know by my daily visits that I love your blog and your five men too.

  3. I have been blogging since January 17, 2006, seven years for me too. Initially I wanted to hone some writing skills and thought I would keep my contacts limited to friends and family. It was a little bit freaky when I first started getting comments from people I didn't know, and I even deleted a few posts that I thought might be too revealing. ha! they weren't really.

Eventually blogging turned into something of a journal, and now I can't imagine giving it up and walking away. I have real "virtual" friends (how's that for an oxymoron?) and so appreciate each and every one. I am blessed to have friends to sit with over a cup of coffee, to share prayer requests with, to love and encourage, and be loved and encouraged by.

Happy Blogiversary to you, Wanda! Thanks for being there.

I think of now as a journal too..bits and pieces of our lives and journey.

  4. Happy anniversary. I remember the fear of pushing that button as well. I began my blog late 2011 because our dil had started one for the story of our granddaughter. I decided it would be fun to preserve the memories from my life and with my family. Then I had to quit for several months due to my husband's health. I kept mine private until a few months ago. Now I am just enjoying reading the blogs of others and hearing stories from sweet people such as you. And enjoying their talents.

    1. Nonnie ~ I have enjoyed your Random Thoughts since I found you, and now I can't remember how that came about...but glad it did.

Most of my adult children are "Blog Shy" so I can't post things about them or pictures...I do respect that but share the ones that are OK with it. It's really a personal diary and journey.

  5. Happy anniversary Wanda! I love the heart filled things that I read on your blog.

I started blogging in 2004. I started as an outlet for my writing. Never imagined the community of friends (like you) that would happen as a result.

    2. Had to delete my original response, as it just didn't sound right. What I was trying to say is I don't have very many men following my blog, but you have been just a delightful and faithful friend. You Spiritual insights and reflections and your personal stories of your struggles have been a real source of encouragement to me.

    1. Oh Cinda...what a sweet surprise to hear from you. I still have my little "crow" you sent me and it makes me think of you and often.

I had trouble uploading pictures too, but found a way to go in the back door (so to speak) email me and I'll try to explain what I do now.

  7. Congrats on seven years. I am very new to blogging, just since Nov of 2012. I have always like writing. I can write a great letter, with great results, to companies about defective products etc. One time I even got my hubby and his co-worker a brand new riding lawn mower, better then the one they were having problems with. But, geez, you can't just write complaint letters to satisfy your writing crave. My daughter had a blog and suggested that I start one. And here I am. I love it but I don't know if I will last 7 years. Congrats, again. Great accomplishment.

  9. Wanda, that header is soooo beautiful. I'm so glad you started your blog seven years ago... and life does change and we do, too. I think that's a good thing. Congratulations on 7 years!! Gosh, I think it was four years ago that I started... with a promise to "try it" for six months to Amanda after they moved to Virginia... Lots of miles in those four years. ;) blessings and hugs ~ tanna

  10. I started blogging because my friend Lynn told me about BLOGS. I was in love with the idea of having my own COLUMN.......and that is what I pretend I have. Since 2004

  11. Oh Wanda, if we had never started blogging we would have never met in person!
That would have been a real tragedy.
