As a young girl I loved all the Beatrix Potter stories. I think it was where my love of watercolor began with her illustrations, and also the illustrations in my Beginning Reader of Dick and Jane. When the movie "Miss Potter" came out I saw it, and bought it, and have watched it many times. I also loved ready the biography's of Beatrix Potter. What a woman, what a story, what enjoyment she has brought to so many. I've been collecting her books and have a set of her miniature books.
All that background to say I found a treasure at the Thrift Store today. A large book in pristine condition. No marks anywhere on or in it. "The Great Big Treasury of Beatrix Potter" was published in 1992 and contains 19 of her stories and illustrations. It was $1.99 and I've been reading it to myself all afternoon. Do you like Beatrix stories? Have you seen the movie...I think you'll love it.
I can't wait to read these stories to our new grandbaby when he/she is old enough!!

You will have to come to the UK and visit the Lake District where she lived. Her farm has been kept intact and is owned by the National Trust. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hill-top/.
ReplyDeleteBring you wet weather clothes though!!!!!!
Oh Dave, to visit the Lake District is truly on my "Bucket List" with you as my tour guide. I will check out the link, thanks.
DeleteI do and I have the movie, I watch it again and again, I read the book first, then watched the movie, not the book you have, a different one, you made a lucky find!
ReplyDeleteHer biography is so facinating too. I remember her saying before, she got published... "I had enough rejection slips to wall paper two rooms." But she never gave up... and look at the treasures we now all enjoy.
DeleteI am embarrassed to say I really haven't read much of her work.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm in a different spot in my life now I think it's time I rectified the situation.
You have challenged me to plunge ahead.
That is a tremendous find for 1.99.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Going to my Granddaughter's Junior High band concert tonight. It should be fun...they are really talented and their director brings out the best in them.
Grand daughter plays French horn.
Sue, I'll bring the movie and book to Tahoe, and pretend you are my granddaughter, and I'll read to you with all my Animal voices..haHaHa
DeleteIsn't it fun to attend grandchildren's functions...I know it will be a lovely evening.
DeleteI can hardly wait!!!!!
DeleteWanda the concert was truly amazing.
It was called Bandextravaganza.
The Granite Bay High School band performed and wow, their percussion numbers were out of this world. Then the Jr. High bands from 2 schools played 3 numbers with them. 230 kids in all.
Talented kids. One high school sophmore composed a jazz number for a small combo, he was the piano player. The combo received a standing ovation.
The Jr. High bands only practiced an half an hour on each number they played with the band. We were so impressed. Talk about mentoring and getting kids excited about music and wanting to continue when they enter high school.
It was an evening well spent.
I always loved the illustrations from B. Potter. I will see the movie now, thanks
ReplyDeleteIf you love her illustrations, you will adore the movie, where her painting come to life...a delightful love story.
DeleteOh my goodness! What a wonderful find at the thrift store. I have that book. It was a baby gift for Taylor! I should pull it out again and enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteMy you've had that one for a while..Well this one will be for the new grandbaby, AFTER I read it to myself a few more times. I will never outgrow B. Potter.
DeleteI don't think I read many of her stories, I don't remember them from childhood. But I do like that movie, I have it on DVD too and have watched it a few times.
ReplyDeleteMy love started as a child...that's probably why, and also because I love watercolors.
