With Thanksgiving behind, I set my focus on decorating for Christmas. Brought in my artificial tree (had for years) and begin to set it up...after a few minutes, knew it was a lost cause. Fake pine needles all over the carpet, and one small string of lights working. As I vacuumed up the mess, I was debating about a small "real" tree this year, as that's all I have room for.
I knew I wanted a couple of poinsettias for the front porch and kitchen window, but when I got to "Doit" (our local Lowes type store) I couldn't believe the size and prices of the poinsettias. So as you can see from my cart.... I came home with three. One is large and will sit in the corner on the table where the tree usually goes.
I think I'm going to like this...I'm in the kitchen this morning making Pumpkin Bread with the pumpkin I cooked the other day
Going to visit Elizabeth this after noon and take her a little loaf. What's on your agenda today?

Thought I'd post a picture of me this morning. I've got my rolling pin, my Christmas apron and ready to start the Christmas baking.
Have several cups of pumpkin ready for Pumpkin Bread, and have cute little Christmas loaf pans to bake it in. Getting ready to mail Goodie Boxes to our daughter in Oregon, and our friend in Texas.
Listening to Christmas music, and almost have the house decorated. My "artificial" tree has seen it last day, so think I will get a small "real" tree this year. A couple of large Poinsettia Plants, and I'll be ready to sit down with a cup of coffee and write myself a Thank You note, HaHa.
How are your Christmas plans coming?

I was looking through some pictures, and didn't realize how many I have of Molly sleeping with her toys. We've had her 8 years and almost 5 of those in retirement. She's loved by all the family, and loves when any of them come to visit.
Did you have a favorite childhood pet? Do you have a pet now?

In the front yard the leaves are still on the tree and turning a bright yellow. Very pretty with the sun shinning through.
However, the back yard is a different story. The trees in the back yard have been dropping leaves (a lot of them) for several weeks. They have been raked up and thrown away a couple of times. My dearest raked all of them up before our Thanksgiving dinner in the back yard...but this was the picture this morning a day later. They can just wait for the landscaper on Thursday! HaHa.

Oh how I love the leftovers after Thanksgiving. Especially Pecan Pie for breakfast. It was a huge and wonderful Thanksgiving Day with all the family. We laugh, we ate, we talked, we ate, we went through some family things in the garage, we ate, we enjoyed the sunshine outside, and we ATE!
Had enough leftovers to send lots home with each family. But I didn't send the last piece of Pecan pie ~~~~ I was saving that for my breakfast this morning... So here I sit in my nightgown, eating pie and reflecting on the wonderful family God has given me!
Now I'm looking forward to a Pilgrim Sandwich for lunch! Are you having leftovers?

When we sit down to our meal and pray
We hurry along and make fast the blessing
Thanks, amen. Now please pass the dressing
We're slaves to the old factory overload
We must rush our prayer before the food gets cold
But Lord, I'd like to take a few minute more
To really give thanks to what I'm thankful for
For my family, my health, a nice soft bed
My friends, my freedom, a roof over my head
I'm thankful right now to be surrounded by those
Whose lives touch me more than they'll ever possibly know
Thankful Lord, that You've blessed me beyond measure
Thankful that in my heart lives life's greatest treasure
That You, dear Jesus, reside in that place
And I'm ever so grateful for Your unending grace
So please, heavenly Father, bless this food You've provided
And bless each and every person invited
Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.
Prayer taken from Christian Google prayers.

July 4, 2000 I bought my little Nissan Sentra. After 12 years I have truly enjoyed this car, and it's served me well. Unfortunately, we have not always had a garage, and after so many years, it was really showing it's age, with peeling paint, and a few dents and dings but still runs like a charm and gets great gas mileage.
On October 4 of this year, a young woman pulled in front of me, and we had a little "fender bender". My front bumper and fender was damaged and my hood tweaked. Since the insurance was going to pay for the damage and repair of the front end, I decided it was time to have all the body work done, and a new coat of paint. Insurance paid for the front, I'll pay for the back..sounded like a good deal.
The company that fixed my car deal with Nissan and were able to use the Nissan Jade Green paint that was my original color so it looks like it did when I drove it off the lot in 2000. It's like having a new car, but one that I know like the back of my hand.
I'm very THANKFUL this Thanksgiving for my little Nissan.

Today I was reading my friend's post at Maple Lane..as she reflected about a family tradition of "Pickled Peaches". As I read it a memory I hadn't thought of for years came like it was yesterday.
We were in the back yard. I was about 10 and my mother and aunts were preparing peaches for pickling. We were sitting with bowls of peaches in our laps carefully peeling them. Being young, and my first experience getting to be included with the "women" I was thrilled. Not being very good with a paring knife, I was cutting off more peach than peel.
With a laugh and a smile, my mom said, "Wanda, if you keep peeling those peaches like that, we'll have "Pickled Pits". We all laughed, and if I remember, mom got me the potato peeler to finish the job.
Childhood memories are precious. Makes me want a "Pickled Peach".

My sweet sister Donna has sent me a big bag of walnut's every November since we retired. One of the things I missed not living in the Valley was getting fresh walnuts and almonds every year, for eating and baking. They are already hulled and in nice halves.
So thanks Donna...your box with the bag of walnuts came today, and just in time for Holiday baking. I can't think of a better early "Christmas" present. You are the best! Love you Sis!
Let's see what should I bake first? Maybe I'll just eat a handful and think about it!!!

Last night was chilly so soup was in order. Oh the smell of homemade minestrone soup coming from the kitchen. It's chucked full of carrots, potatoes, kidney beans, zucchini, celery onion, tomatoes, cabbage..I could go on...oh yes, seashell pasta too.
Made enough to freeze half for another chilly night later on.
What soup do you like to make?

Tuesday's is Senior Day at the Thrift Store, and that means 30% off everything. They were just beginning to put out some Christmas items, so I was just in time. I got this pretty Christmas platter for $2.00. It reminds me of Betsy at "My Five Men" with all her lovely bird pictures. We don't have Cardinals in Southern CA.
I have several Christmas Trivets, but this one caught my eye for less than a dollar.

This is my dearest and our long time and special friend Tom from Texas. This picture was taken at the Ronald Regan Library when Tom visited us a couple years ago.
You might see him comment on my blog from time to time. He got a great sense of humor and great story teller. He said he enjoyed my 1000 gift journal, and it inspired him to list a few of his blessing and things he's thankful for... The following is the list he emailed me. I love it, he already had too many to number!!! Thanks Tom...You are big time on my list.
baskets, fish tackle, jugs, jalopies, malts, rockets, angels, violins, streams, sleep.

My 1000 Gift's Journal is getting closer to that 1000 mark. Sometimes I get so busy I do forget to write them down. But I do love sitting down with a cup of coffee and reading back over the list and then I'm thankful all over again.
Sadly he died, and I have purchased a new fish, and he really has a different personality. Stays at the bottom of the bowl, will not respond to my voice. This one is called a Dragon Scale Crown Tall Male Betta. I don't remember my "Blue Boy" having such a fancy name.
When I told my dearest I was thinking of returning it and trying to get one more like Blue Boy, he thinks I'm a hard hearted woman, and suggested I give the new fish more time. OK, I will. But a woman wants some positive response!!! So little "Rudy" I guess you win, and I'll give you time to come around and get used to your new home and my voice.
What would you do??

On chilly days, I love to put dinner in the oven and let it warm up the kitchen and the smell warm up the house! Yesterday in rained and it seemed the perfect day to make my little pork tenderloin. I split it up the middle and stuffed it with prunes and pineapple. Added potatoes and carrots and the house smelled like "Sunday".
Remember when roast was the typical Sunday meal, or in our case mom loved to fry chicken in her big dutch oven. What are your memories of Sunday cooking?
My new retired rule is NEVER ON SUNDAY! My dearest takes me out to breakfast after Church, so I make roast on Thursday..HaHa.

It's OK, because I love this time of year, and now I can focus my attention on preparation for Thanksgiving, and begin some Christmas shopping.
With all the rush of the next two months, my goal is to "carve" (no pun intended, ha ha) out some time for devotions, giving thanks and sharing the good life we have with family and friends. Truly a time to Count Your Blessings...Name them One by One....
So blessings my friends. You are a valuable part of my day!
BTW ~ October was so busy, I didn't respond to your comments..I plan to get back to that this month. So expect a response to your comment!!
